Anyone else had their new estimated annual bill through? Mines just gone up £730. It’s easy to see how people are going to struggle like hell!
Not to mention fuel will soon hit nearly £2 a liter There's an article on the interwebs saying that price rises due to the the Ukraine war will cost folk on average a couple of thousand a year in lost spending power. Better than giving money to Vlad, however.
Multi fuel stoves for coal and wood and plumbed into your heat system is tempting now . Wouldn't surprise me if coal will be allowed to be bought, and shut down time be extended
I filled the landmark up so much today it was spilling out from underneath whilst I can still afford petrol
Recon they are opening pits back up & re opening wokin mens clubs up North Stick that in yer pipe Vlad.
Signed up to a fixed price for gas and electric back in November when it looked like prices were set to rise because of the price cap adjustment, but never anticipated just how crazy the world was going to get. I could be smug... but in reality, the prices aren't rising until the winter is almost over, summer will mean not much gas and less electric anyway, and by the time winter rolls around again, my fixed price year will practically be over Reckon my log burner will be getting some serious use, and we'll be fighting over any unsaleable trees at work! My parents have had their estimate for the coming year - an combined increase of £100 a month. Where are they going to find that money on a state pension? When it comes down to a choice of eat or be warm for some people, things have gone way too far.
I drive mine to work now as have a new job plus its exempt from the greater Manchester congestion charge which is a complete rip off, people in Oldham have to pay it!!!!!! £10 per day to drive your van.
Just had an email from Shell Energy and my electricity DD is going up from £80 per month to £189. There's no gias in the village but heating oil has gone up from 66p a litre to £1.28 a litre in the past fortnight
Yes, that's a terrible situation to be in. How, in a civilised and relatively wealthy society, have we let it come to this? Sorry, no intention to turn it into a political thread.
Glad we're approaching spring and warmer weather/light nights. We've got a multi fuel stove in the front room and already decided that next autumn that's going to be the living room. Keep it stoked after the heating goes off at 9am. Started collecting branches from the last storm and tucked them under a tarp behind the garage to dry/season (there's already a ban on the burning of 'wet' fuel). No heating on in between, I've got a few 100w towel rail heaters that are surprisingly warm. And primark has hot water bottles for about £3. Grab them while you can.......
+1. Certainly saves on some gas. I was wondering if the clampdown on the installation of new woodburners & only being able to use kiln dried wood might be put on the backburner for the time being, given the extortionate fuel prices.
@Fruitcake Im helping my friend twice a week i fill a 25 litre container as its a little cheaper if you collect it yourself its the only way to afford it.
