Gas and electric

  1. We’re on a fixed contract too, for another year. Good only knows what will happen then. The daughter has just gone up from £110 per month, to £250 per month. That’s crippling.

  3. The Best way to save money is insulate everything you possibly can and look around for the best deals.

Loft 2-3 layers on existing will make a massive difference.

Another source of fuel .If there is a recycling plant near you ...you could buy old scrap timber, which is separated and ground up ,looks ugly in your back yard ...cover up and let dry .
The one around where we are has stacks of it .
A local agricultural merchant half mile down the road from it gets a truck load delivered , and keeps his whole buildings heated up . Think he gets for next to nowt .

  7. And I’m grateful I have some wooden furniture to burn in mine :)
Do we really need that little table!

  8. And in the price increase they are sneaking up the daily standing charge at the same time. Mines going up by 12p a day, so an extra £40 a year on top of the unit price increase.

Six weeks on and I've not had a reply about it all from my 'Tory safe seat' MP yet.

Three cheers for the Free Market Economy........

  9. Normal rolls are cheaper to buy then kingpan, easier to install ranging from 100mm-200mm just remember to buy a disposable jumpsuit face mast- gloves- glasses on so.

  10. Pikeys will be leaving lead flashing behind and taking church pews instead......

Definitely ... the photo is from a couple of weeks back. Didn't seem much point in doing that roof to ground heat store I told you about unless the draughts were gone.
That new window gable is 95% insulation 5% timber :)

Most of our boards are reclaim ... and easier to seal with the expanding foam ... No face mask, so a bit "high" some evenings

We’re electric only and looking at £800 uplift.

we have wood burners and normally don’t use one of them unless it’s really cold. I think we’ll be looking at extra wood next year.

we have been getting quotes for PV and batteries and it should negate the price rise. the payback period isn’t too bad with these price hikes!

I do have our old coal store on eBay at the moment… perhaps I should pull it and wait for Boris to announce the opening of the pits?!

Oi you lot! Stick to your gas or my solid fuel heating costs are going to rise even faster than they already are.
    Put on another fleece!
Seriously though - bad times - I don't pretend to understand but fuel prices doubling? Is this real or are we being totally had over?

A couple of thick sweaters is a lot cheaper than an extortionate heating bill. I used to go around in short sleeved shirts. Heating has now been turned down!

We're spoiled. When I were a lad we didn't have central heating, we had one open fire, one thing with a back boiler for the water no loft insulation, no cavity walls and that was that... and we were quite posh! Ice inside the windows etc. Yes it was a bit cold but not for all that much of the year.

We also didn't really have much stuff that ran on electricity - lights, a washing machine you had to feed with hot water, a telly that was mostly off because there was no service between midnight and 5pm the next day - it goes on. We've become huge energy consumers over the past 50-60 years.

Seriously, some of us might be best off adapting to being a bit colder. How many of you can say you've used no heating at all today? I can, it's been a warm day - certainly not cold.
