Another funny thread, the original post/review wasn't for the earz, it was for the addition of motorcycle visor trim to the earz. This was a good idea
No worries Barney, it wasn't your post which bugged me, as I've hit a swarm of bees at eighty on my bike before! That stung a bit. I will always listen to an opinion and as a builder dub owner for over 20 years and all round silly bugger, banter goes with the territory, there was one post in particular which seemed to be aimed personally as opposed to the product. And I don't care for that I put the post up in the first place with regard to the trim I fitted to mine as I know a few people my way have them and we've all walked into them and this has stopped it happening (or at least softened the blow)
Yes mate I've read the whole post and I think you seemed to take umbrage when it wasn't necessary. I personally don't think the Earz are needed and I also think they look silly so they wouldn't get within 100 metres of my bus. On the other hand I have a spare wheel on the front and eyelids, both things which lots of people on here think is a hanging offence. That's the point really, each bus and owner, is individual. Your opinion is as valid as everyone else's, but it isn't the only one. As for the "Encouraging Like's" they will be outweighed by the other posts. Baysearcher has commented on "Like's" for power increasing HT leads etc. We have to assume that the average reader on this site is able to make up their own minds. The fact that one person posted to tell us that these 'Snake Oil' HT leads are brilliant, and another poster or two 'Likes' that post doesn't really matter. They would be completely swamped when others posted informing us that they are just a few washers in a plastic box. This is the point at which people make their own minds up and if they decide to buy the 'special' HT leads, then fair play to them, it's their money after all.
Well as luck may have it, I actually did some testing on 'eyelids' when my bus was still mobile: The results were pretty conclusive: With eyelids fitted: @ 60 mph, Ambient Temp 46 ^F, Relative Humidity 64% Oil Temp= 109^F Without eyelids fitted: @ 60 mph, Ambient Temp 46 ^F, Relative Humidity 64% Oil Temp= 109^F
When my mate brought his bay in from oz it had big ears fitted to it. This type: He removed them and found the oil temperature rose 5c when running at 60mph. It could have just been a fluke but he reinstalled them as he felt they made a bit of a difference in temperature. People said to me that installing the larger type4 oil cooler to a type 1 engine was pointless as it was impossible to get more air through the cooler. I fitted it anyway as i had nothing to loose, and with it fitted its running 10c cooler at cruising speed. I've done the same on another couple of buses and got the same results. The chrome trim is a great idea if it stops people walking into them. Really need something on westy louvered windows as they hurt like hell when you walk into an open one. To be fair, its your bus, bought with your hard earned cash and you can do whatever you like with it (just no neon lights underneath right!). The world would be a boring place if everybody liked the same things.
These ^^^ are what I've got. I left them on as they are part of the van, maybe not original but part of its history
I had to think long and hard about whether my mechanical knowledge was sufficient to enable me to take on the role of a mod
