Pic of seats ( golf GTI) instead of the corduroy.

Had to fit one of these as the ECU would not output a signal for the Analog rev counter

Plus a ton of other things that I’ve forgotten .

My plan to get it on the road was scuppered by this

  3. She’s virtually done . Paint is a bit pants but I’m not stressed. Defo a 20 yard car but totally zero rust . Found out she was originally a 2.0 litre cali car then shipped out of state once she failed emissions. Hoping to finish tuning the supercharged 1.7 in the next week or two .. it’s been a ton of work

  7. Obviously there is loads not shown . It came to me with maybe 20 gash holes drilled for a rear spoiler (but no spoiler ) I carefully welded al 20 holes some the size of a 5p on inner and outer panel but I couldn’t match the paint where I was happy so I spent 3 years looking for a rear spoiler but this time I made clamps to hold it on and it hides pair difference

  8. Do love a 914 .... One day Hopefully :)

  9. So today was the day . As it’s microsquirt FI ( plus supercharger ) I don’t know much but I have a very knowledgeable friend who over a couple of sessions had it running off the laptop with AFR tables and ignition tables ( max 21deg ) all set best guess . Changed to a 2 bar MAP sensor ( boost ) and took it for a drive . With the MS tuner studio software set to autotune the more we drove it the better it got and well .. she’s got some get up and go . Boost is 7.5 psi .. drove just local for around an hour . A few items to sort them a proper drive to populate all the VE table
dog leg box takes some getting used to but first time driving a 914 or any Porsche for that matter . . Charge cooler and the car itself drove spot on .. IMG_5069.jpeg

Fantastic job Steve, it's been a joy following the rebuild and the top notch quality and engineering skills. Well done.

  14. hopefully this link works .. second mapping session and she’s just getting better . it’s amazing what effect just 1 dev of timing can have .We still have a bit more but to do but map is nearly there you can even hear the BOV over the charger noise .. Timing is set to 21 deg MAX 7.5psi boost ( ahem at the minute ) we were trying for 5th gear WOT under load to populate VE table . Don’t get me wrong I love my Dells on my bus but this ( and it’s only microsquirt) is something else

What cam are you using with the supercharger?

  16. love the sound of the blower :)

what does it feel like to drive - revvy? mid-range torque? would this be a good bus engine or is it more suited to the sporty / light 914?

  17. Bearing in mind this was a low budget build I reused the original WO engine code cam .

  18. Way back when I started this it was intended to go in my bus that’s why I went SC and not turbo . It’s not a 914 case . Engine was from a 412 WO code and is a 1700 FI 80bhp standard which in my head offers the best head/case sealing . Drives great , no idea what bhp it has but tons of torque especially in a light car .. I have a diverter valve that at idle recirculates the forced air but as soon throttle opens this closes and it’s on boost .

For me once the novelty of the supercharger whine wore off it would be annoying.

It would make a good bus engine but of course the more you use the power the hotter it would get. The supercharger increases the torque, and therefore the BHP also increases, the same as increasing the engine capacity. No turbo lag just more power throughout the standard rev range.

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

From Samba reading, heat generated is a problem - you can only boost so far and they're rather inefficient - you get more power/torque but the engine has to work hard to run the supercharger so maybe not best thing for a bus.
