Bellows type, please? Happy with non working ones, but with the bellows intact. Required, for experimentation and practicing of the "Bazza" method. What have you? Many thanks.
If you have the time to successfully repair some let us know. Working type 1 stats fetch a good price in working order. Type 4 stats are like rocking horse …. and fetch silly money. However the only alternative is from awesome powdercoat and they are well pricey.
I think I can see what Baz was up to, but so far it's still dead thermostats one, me nil, which is where I started, to be fair, so nothing ventured.... But nil desperandum, as they say, practice makes perfect. Happy to cover postage on any donations to my hopeless cause.
I spotted a couple of thermostats in a box today when I was lugging stuff into my new workshop. I will try and remember to look at them tomorrow
Are you aware the T1 and T4 are different ?? T1's are shorter than T4's , I forget the actual figure but T4's have a couple of extra 'vanes' which could affect the Bazza method with extra volume ?? Not being picky but to quote Michael Caine "not many people know that ....." Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
It's all on the Ratwell pages that Bazza links too, 10 vanes, 13 vanes, different temps etc, complete minefield.
4 thermostats here 1 of them a type 4 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/11554860...7MIkUWHTlS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
One T1 and one T4 Both look ok, and haven’t popped, untested, but could put them in the kettle if needed lol
Don't do that without the bracket, they'll over expand and break. I thought this one looked ok but it wasn't - despite it initially expanding in hot water it blew bubbles. Also when fitted with the cable all set up, it stretched to fill the bracket while it was still cold.
And here's a new one at rest, it's more compressed. Tricky blighters, a duff one isn't always obvious!
I was thinking £30 each, but in light of zeds info, I’m going to have to add the disclaimer “untested” lol
No problem. I will box it up tomorrow, but I probably won’t be able to get it to a PO before Monday. If that’s ok, pm me your address mate
@Dubs, you're a gent, sir. It's alive!!!! I have some cabling to sort as mine is a beetle stat with a type 4 cable, so my cable's nut has a different thread, but I am thinking that a ferrule clamp off a bike cable and my crimpers should sort that.
So, thread the cable through the nut on the thermostat pictured? Or are you trying to avoid re-threading the cable up through the tin?
