Does the standard heating on your late bay work?

Do all type 4 have that little fan on top of the engine to push the hot air through or was it an optional extra, mine has one I think that it is this that makes mine so effective?

The fan's only there to shove some air through when the engine's idling, with the direction heater lever right down. Otherwise it does nowt.

I've been saying this for quite some time. I've always thought that the engine fan must be much more powerful than the electric one, but I thought it was time to test it.

Out on the road with electric fan off check how much air is blowing through the front vents. Then pull over and check it with just the electric fan blowing (you need the ignition on but the engine off). On mine both seem to give about the same air flow, but when you run both the flow significantly increases.

I need a longish trip to see what this means in terms of heat, but I'd be interested to find what other folks are experiencing.

I went through my system when I had the engine out last year so I've got new pods, welded up leaks in HE's, adjusted cables etc. It's not great but better than before.

Aaaah believe that you need the engine running for the extra fan to work, as the relay is driven off the alternator output.

Not so on mine. It just started to snow when I went out to look so I didn't linger, but it seems to come off the same wiring as the coil, and Mr Haynes thinks that how it should be. But the point is that engine fan + electric fan seems to give almost double the puff than just the engine fan, and that's a surprise to me.

We have lost pressure in ours and have checked everything is connected up in the engine bay. Would love to get our heating top notch. You can get a device called a squirrel fan or something that you can add near engine bay that blows the warm air faster.
If it's just a dribble you have leaks in the pipework. This also means that the dribble of air has taken longer to get there and will be cooler. Fix the leaks and you'll get more air and hotter air. Favourite place for a big leak is either end of the big central pipe when it passes through the crossmembers and you can't see it.

Oh Zed I wish you lived closer as would love to pop over and for you to take a look at our heating. Im sure you would solve ours in less than 10 mins but I just have no clue.

It kind of works. There arent any cables though so If I want the heating on or off it involves getting under the bus with cable ties or snips!

No cables, so I've hit the valves wedged open, my daily commute us 12 miles, takes about 11 miles to demist my windscreen lol
