That was like the trickiest pool shot ever. If he planned that, then to him I did feel sorry for Norris though - spoilt his race somewhat
I don’t mind a bit of sporting banter and heckles, but the booing throughout this weekend and particularly post race was uncalled for. Ham had just driven a brilliant race in circumstances that were difficult. The people booing should put the opinions to one side and give him the respect he deserves (in my opinion)
Agree 100%. max decided he would not yeild - either hamilton yields or they have an accident - its the same logic senna always applied - that's why he and prost always clashed and that also gave us memorable championship-defining shunts. Just on the tax thing - yes he lives in monaco but its been widely documented that he actually pays tax in 4 of the 9 countries he earns money in, and that includes paying tax in the uk: "HMRC's UK Income Tax Liabilities Statistics, published in 2019, puts Hamilton among the top 5,000 highest tax payers in the UK."
Agreed. Half points is a bit of a joke.regardless of how quick anyones qualifying lap was it shouldn’t equate to 35 or so racing laps!
Rushed home, got the iPad on, clocked the 45min programme time on C4 and wondered if this was about to be an anticlimax or some sort of massive pile up…. Not convinced about the farcical two laps and half points. The stewards knew that they were never going to actually race, so it is almost gifting Max the points! Oh well.
Farcical was no more than a drivers parade in the rain. Points should not have been awarded for that.
Completely agree… but they also award points for Monaco which is much the same but spread out over a race distance!
Not really , the team celebrated but it was gifted and they knew it . A better result would have been an honest top ten or possibly top five in the rain .... Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
I wonder if they had to do x laps so the fans can’t get a refund. I know they have to do 2 laps for half points. Hamilton said he hopes the fans get a refund.
To award effectively based on a single flying fap when the drivers and teams couldn’t be aware that would be their final placing just doesn’t seem right. Not much better but overall performance in qualifying might have been fairer…. The two laps were pointless. I wonder what the result would have been if you took the best of each driver from all qualifying sessions which would be more of an indicator of form in similar conditions to the race. Might have been fairer on Perez who trashed frankly when no one should have been on track, or even Norris who, again, shouldn’t have been out in those conditions. There’s too much pressure on officials (and drivers!) to run the race come what may and this attitude will kill a driver eventually (again)
I agree with the rest but not the above . Twenty years ago the "officials" would have forced the teams out to race due to tv and sponsorship commitments with threats of points deduction or start money withheld . The top teams would stand their ground but the smaller teams who desperately needed funds and a hollow result for the sponsors would race ... Everyone seems united for the common good today so things have improved immensely . Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
fair enough! Corrected placings (top 10)based on all qualifying (based on times and not placing and taking into account Bottas penalty) would have been (if my maths is right!): 1 Max Verstappen Red Bull (1) 2 Lewis Hamilton Mercedes (3) 3 George Russell Williams (2) 4 Sebastian Vettel Aston Martin (5) 5 Pierre Gasly AlphaTauri (6) 6 Sergio Pérez Red Bull (crashed) 7 Daniel Ricciardo McLaren (4) 8 Esteban Ocon Alpine (7) 9 Charles Leclerc Ferrari (8) 10 Nicholas Latifi Williams (15)
Btw. Didn’t have a time for Norris!for Q3. Might revisit lap times to get an idea where he would have been!
