gonna tell virgin media to shove it

  1. Retentions are usually pretty good, but I think the more you spend a month the more they'll do for you. That said yesterday my Dad got a letter saying his bill for basic broadband, Basic TV (i.e just the stuff you get on freeview ::)) and anytime calls was going up to £31p/m. He shopped around and then called the retentions team. He now has it for £22p/m but they are coming to pick up the TV box. Stupid thing is he can get more channels on the freeview box in the other room!!

Last month we changed our package from XL everything, HD Sports and Movies and two V+HD boxes to everything with 2 Tivo boxes AND a V+HD box - our bill went down by about £20p/m??? How does that happen then. It was cheaper for us to take the extra box, if we hadn't the new package would cost us £10 more a month. Weird - I'm not complaining though ;)

  2. there good them tivo boxes would swap our v+ box for one but we daren’t phone em up in case they click on we shouldn’t have m8 rates no more

Hey Rick, I don't understand all this technical stuff. I looked on Sky's website and was even more confused. All I want is to watch all the F1 races (live and in full). I don't care about all the other channels, ain't got the time - I've always just had Freeview which a mate of mine set up for me and that gives enough extra channels as it is.

So, because I'm a dummy with this stuff, can you tell me what number to call, to make the order, and how much I'll have to pay to get F1 races on Sky. That's all I want - to be able to watch all the F1 races (because Schumie is going to do something special this year, I can feel it coming!). If the deal includes an internet package then that's fine (think I currently pay BT £20 per month for Broadband, or something like that, and I hate BT and wouldn't mind giving them the boot).

2012. Rosberg v Schumacher for the title. Maybe, just maybe, Merc are about to reveal a dominating car?

  4. You will only get F1 if you subscribe to Sky Sports.

  8. have phoned em yet rik :)

  9. I stand corrected.

What happens to your on demand service if you can the sports and movie channels?

We don't have SKY broadband but read recently that they were going to offer the on demand service to a wider audience. Don't like paying for the sports & movie subscription but SKY Go is too valuable to let go at the moment.

anyway back to my shove it virgin thread....
rang again and got through to retentions, got a really nice lady who i genuinely belived was telling me the truth and explained to me what i actually get for my £41.50 soon to be £45.00 a month.....some of these things i just didn't do or know i could do so i suppose it isn't that bad when broken down. Turns out i'm on 10mb speed soon to be turned up to 20mb - fine but i don't care.... i also have free evening and weekend calls - fine but i don't even have the house phone plugged in as i use the mobile......My internet downloads are unlimited and uncapped so i can stream whatever i like although they said i only use between 10-20 Gig a month......i get the XL tv package which is everything bar Sky sports and Movies this includes free on demand and a host of stored programmes and films for free...fine but i don't really watch them.....thing is and this is what i didn't know, to have all these options together i threatende to leave years ago (i must have forgot) and they made me a golden handshake deal at £19.50 deduction so if i now bought the package i had it would cost me £60 a month..... i ain't sure about that though......anyway the be all and end all is if i can find ANY Virgin deal on the net or in print that is offered that i think is better they will give it me but she says i won't but if i do it will be a new 18 month contract. So i'm staying as i am at the moment as it doesn't go up until April 1st and i asked what i can have for free then if they can't keep the price lower.....they are giving me HD and a new box with a twin channel recorder in plus a new wireless modem hub thingy and i'm still on 30 days only old contract...this means i've got some time to try and sort out a deal offSky but i doubt i'll beat Virgin 'cos i would have to have a B.T. line installed and pay £12.50? to B.T. before i even start looking at internet or whatever.....Virgin will sell me just my internet for £22.50 stand alone all in.

  11. You really shoved it to them then didnt you ::)

  13. I would keep the broadband but get rid ot the TV.
I have virgin broadband and its by far the best I've ever had - download speeds are amazing.
I pay £24.99 for 30meg (soon to be 60) including free weekend calls (that I dont use I dont even have a phone plugged in)
I mean you dont even get movies or sports?
Might as well just stick with freeview.

  15. Think Sky are doing a few good deals on tv, bb and phone at the moment...I seem to remember seeing an advert for £20 / month.

Not sure what speeds, channels etc that included but maybe worth an investigate.
