There is a lot of overpriced marmite out there. There is a lot of sub-standard kit out there. There are people ripping owners/restorers off. That doesnt mean to say everyone is a rip off or everyone is selling crap. Were all sick of goods that arent fit for purpose and are entitled to say so. Slightly different argument to the original.

If traders are working hard to source hard to find parts and supplying them at a reasonable profit they have my full support.

Who are you to tell us we shouldnt even have this debate. If you want to be a part of the scene then enjoy but everyone isnt driving up and down the motorway network for the good of someone else and if they are struggling then do something else. Thats what the rest of us do.

Its good to have a healthy scene and a good supply of decent quality stuff and businesses will come and go. Just cos we have a moan on here the world isnt going to end!

Are you referring to my post? who am I? ;D you got me all wrong ;D I never said you shouldnt have this debate I said I thought this thread was ridiculous and if its based around people like Bigrich and claiming he is asking stupid prices for OG parts then it is.

Your right we are all sick of goods that are not fit for purpose but thats not what Im talking about or what the OP was.

My point is people are struggling and sick of driving up and down the motorway for not much profit and yes they could and probably will end up doing something els. Then the parts will get rarer and prices will go up anyway. 90% of original German parts are imported if prices drop we would not get them.

These parts are not rare this is a mass produced vehicle .Parts for a Squire or a Buggatti Royale are rare .The VW parts scene is like the Diamond industry [Loads out there but price is overinflated].
People pay what they wish or advertise them for whatever price they think they are worth but in the longterm this will not do the scene or the genuine enthusiast any good.
The price of campers in the last 6 years have gone through the roof allowing freshly painted shiney wrecks to be sold to very keen but green buyers.More 'specialist' VW restorers seem to appear and then dissappear all at the expensive of the owners .
Simple answer is pay a fair price for parts and buses and this will stop the greed element .

Be sure to let me know (just before) all the "enthusiasts" drop their prices to help the scene, Im gonna sell up the lot

Do you compare your prices to Renault? or just what you think they should cost? we are not talking cheap repro parts hear.

This whole thread is ridiculous if you drop the price of spares how do expect people to afford to import/buy/break busses? these people have to make a living. And if your referring to the average person selling what he has in his garage then they are going to get what they can and would be mad not to.

Iv read this whole thread and the thought back to Sunday night I was sitting round a table with a good friend that trades aircooled parts full time.He had just dropped in for a cuppa on a FIVE hour trip to pick up some parts for bristol.

To cut a long story short the guy is struggling just like I struggled when I sold parts full time. There is so many aspects of selling parts that punters just dont take in to consideration. It NOT a gold mine its a very hard life.

I know more people in VW scene going out of business or trying to scrape through then ever. and threads like this really dont help

Dont be fooled when you see us sitting with are parts in the sunshine with a beer in are hands this is after all the hard work is done.
Hi, Seems i have hit a nerve or two with my original post ! i compare my prices not just to Renaults but most mass producedclassic cars .I have owned many classics and restored my Volvo Amazon from spares obtained from a full time specialist who's prices were very reasonable .This was because he ran a superb restoration service that would guarantee him return customers year after year.
Most [but not all] VW so- called restorer go out of business because their work is substandard and they are often owned and ran by keen but mechanically green enthusiasts .
Its easy to put a nice lick of paint over a knackered bus and sell it at a huge profit and this is what i have seen at lots of shows .Greed is what will fuel the high prices ! and the answer to you question. People can afford to import/buy/break buses because it makes them a very tidy and mostly CASH profit otherwise why would you ship them in all the way from Australia or South Africa ?
