Presumably he was doing some good work too? My personal dealings with him are
    1) 20 years ago he spent a week or 2 of evenings welding up my rear chassis, corners, battery trays etc in very difficult conditions for not much money.
    2) he sold me a really nice (untested) 6 rib box c/w starter for gearbox gamble money, even delivered it 200 miles to nearby for free as he was passing. He had his dad with him - nice old boy.
If that's all I had to go on?

  2. Ahh okay, still seems to have internet and FB presence, despite not trading any more. Hope you get a fair outcome from this unfortunate sitution.
    My opinion only...
I would not find any of the work you have shown to be acceptable if I was paying a 'professional' to do it.

Website was an eye-opener for me - Dean Butler helped me make a sparkly one and almost overnight I had customers with nice buses wanting what you could call hobby things doing rather than grufty bodywork or fixing broken things. These owners didn't read forums, they googled for a "specialist" garage. When I gave up and had to turn work down I had people almost begging me to work on their vans - not because it was me, just because finding anyone who would do it at all was not easy. That was also interesting. I should/could have been charging more. :)

That’s pretty much my experience too, if only I was 30 years younger I might have enough energy to make a living out of it!

  7. This was my thinking. I was doing my own restore on the van fitting panel welding them in. Then one day I had all my tools welder, plasma cutter, grinders, and all my hand tools. Got ripped of from the first restore and now this. It's not looking good

He’s not a company, so anyone can sue him personally. I know of at least one other person to get money back from him.

    No.

  11. So does that make him a sole trader?

  12. If he’s not a limited company (LTD) or limited liability company (LLC) then he’s a sole trader

  13. So he personally is responsible for every aspect of the business.

Grimreaper should be able to take him to small claims court easily then.

  14. That is where the problem comes in. There is no way of contacting him. His Facebook page no long runs and the number I have for him is no longer in service. He is not at the unit would you be there with angry customers asking why there vans are not done. So I have contact for him

from those pictures it looks like minimal rectification work , a few grommets, front panels fitted, needs a bit of paint and sealer, couple of knock on the windscreen will fit it properly, i assume its still in primer so needs the screen pulling back out?

  17. There is always ways of tracing someone, ask at units adjacent, local fb groups or even suppliers who normally have their home address. Trust me suppliers who haven't been paid are more than helpful as are former employees.
Sometimes a Google of the person brings up results, try insolvency register....

  18. Exactly that yes. Hypothetically if 10 customers are owed 10k in damages then kiss your house goodbye. It costs money to be limited but you pay your money or take your chances. Could probably play the bankruptcy card though
