  5. That doesn’t actually look like your m-plate. Look under the dash on the left hand side, on top of the fresh air duct.

  6. Should have said it’s a Jurgens AutoVilla , the chassis number is 2152 117 767 as on the bottom line of the plate, which relates ok as the 5 represents 1975 , but can’t fit the other letters & numbers into the decoder ? Thanks

  7. From vw Germany as a flatbed I’m led to believe to South Africa for motorhome conversion

  8. Have a look under the dash.

I have a similar plate behind the driver's seat, mine is a South African. No plate under the dash either Snotts - I had it out too. In fact I think I can safely say I haven't got one?

  12. Thanks Mark, seems like the Vans which were sent to SA were different? This is the engine plate on mine which was a possibility & is blank , & I don’t have a plate under the dash……..so the question remains …how do you decode our plates ?

  13. Deffo nothing there mate …..maybe SA delivered vans were plated differently?

According to Aircooled VW South Africa forum, SA buses don’t have M-Plates.

Hmmm... that's a plate hiding your chassis number. The chassis number should also be on a riveted plate somewhere in the cab and the two should match. As the riveted plate is not tamper proof and the plated over one is permanent I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

I can help with some of it but South Africa build plates are difficult to fully de-code. This is my best guess..

Top line. The EA is the VW world export destination. EA means it arrived in Kisangani, Zaire which suggests it’s a German built vehicle shipped as a CKD kit.

Middle line. The 67/67 is the interior trim code and seat colour code. 67 means light brown.

Bottom line. The 21 indicates it was originally a panel van. The 5 means it was built between August 74 and July 75. The 2 indicates it was made in the 1970’s. The last six numbers are the sequential build number.

    Hope this helps.

  18. Thanks mate someone has suggested just that on the Jurgens site I’ve just found with ‘in addition’ the middle left number 7102 being paint code?

  20. Best I can do mate is what I’ve compiled in the picture from the guys on the Jurgens site , it’s real hard guesswork , but little by little I’m finding out more , for instance the EA signifies shipment from Hannover to Zaire !
