my bay didnt have a passenger bulkhead, or an mplate anywhere else that i could see. now ive got a new bulkhead salvaged, it has an M plate so i am halfway there ..... sort of but not. lol.
I havent looked in the suggested places yet,but my vin no. in the engine bay does match my vehicle documents so does that mean its not a ringer
mate don't get flapping, these vans are old, things get removed and changed, vin's can be rigged if you're that bothered get a check off the AA or HPI, chances are IF it's a ringer it's been done to get free tax - why else would it be? but check the places mentioned before worrying, how much history of the van do you know? previous owners? etc etc is your vin number in the windscreen on a 73? i don't know? i have one there and in the engine bay as well, if it's been butchered in the engine bay check for bad stamping in the metal or welding of the area round it etc.
snotty, i agree, what i meant was check the engine bay one shows no signs of being cut from a "donor" and i also mentioned if there is one on the dash behind the screen as well, there is on mine but i'm 1978, i am not sure if 1973 has them.
The M-plate on the bulkhead would've been removed when welding in new front arches and seatbelt mounts... well, generally that's what I do, as you run the risk of melting them... but I always rivet them back on!!
All this talk about plates and restorers removing them has made go and look again. The vin plate isn't on the passenger bulk head. It used to be cos I checked it when I bought it. So after a small panic I found it on the drivers side bulkhead so it's moved. Bloody body shop, bunch of knobbers. No wonder they went bust
that might be a different plate if it is larger than a credit card more like just under a5 paper size, then its not an mplate.
