odometer stopped recording miles, speedo still working, must be some form of cog in the mechanism? fixable? Its not the cable that is new, the clock seems to be stuff at 99.
Yes, one of the nylon gears splits after years soaking up hydrocarbons and moisture. Do a search, I think there is a gear from a model car that fits. Or a mate with a decent 3D printer should be able to make one. There are EU and USA spares suppliers too.. may end up expensive though, or refuse to sell you one because you are a hated(post brexit VAT rules) Brit. I used to fix Philips VCRs with a similar pesky gear by roughening the metal shaft, gluing the gear on with Araldite, then wrapping the collar of the gear (bit with no teeth) in maybe 4 turns of strong thread, working out a way to pull that tight, then paint the thread with Araldite to glue it into a locking band.
So if I open up the cluster should be able to see/workout the cog with the issue? Luckily I have still not fixed the cluster into place due to still resolving electrical issues, can access easily, will take a look inside.

I'll be interested to know where you find a replacement cog, if indeed you do. We've got a trip counter, and both it, and the main odometer will run for a few miles, then stop, until I reset the trip by pushing the knob in.

If the cog has The cog is slipping because you have a trip meter adding to the load on it. Remove cog, roughen the shaft (e.g. use pliers to "knurl"it by squeezing the tooth marks of the pliers into the shaft.) Then glue cog onto shaft with epoxy, and if the cog is split, wrap the collar part in thread and glue.. as I said, every Philips VHS recorder I owned eventually needed that fix to let it eject video cassettes.
Thanks, a brief inspection last year suggested that the cogs weren't meshing fully and I suspected that when the load increased it was skipping, rather than slipping, but didn't see it in action. I'll try the approach you describe, and hopefully that will cure it.
If you have a trip counter, I'll assume you have a KPH speedo, the gear is a different size to the mph one - I couldn't find an ebay replacement but did manage to get one 3d printed to replace.
We have a trip counter that measures miles. However, I had to stick a KPH dial over it when we first registered the van in Switzerland. So it is a KPH speedo now, but it is recording miles, some of the time... The van is a 73, but I suspect the whole cluster has been replaced at some point, and is from an earlier model.
OK seems to be moving now, Cog was OK but numbers just seemed stuck, little squirt of WD40 and wound on with screwdriver and seems to be moving for now.
a MPH with trip?! I didn't know these were a thing! Glad you fixed it @BarryDean , it looks like there is a crack on the pinion gear at 12o'clcok in your photo - I initially superglued mine which lasted for a while, but had to replace it in the end as it would keep stopping at 0.9 as the extra resistance of flipping the next number over would cause slippage
Yes that's what was happening to mine 0.9, I thought the line was supposed to be there, and now have looked closely seems worn in this area.
