  2. I’ve just bought the ball & pin hitch

    After having a good think
The only reason I was willing to have the tyre rest on the ball was because I didn’t want the cross brace resting on the ball.
However if I come far out enough for it to rest on the tyre it’s going to be too far out when the tyre is vertical.
It’s going to plough the ground on inclines, likely smash my shins on it and some daft buggers probably going to put it through their radiator parking behind me.
So it either going to be a case of trying to miss the crossbar by keeping it short and letting the tyre rest on the ground as intended
Or try and extend it far enough for the ball to go through the gap and the cross brace rest on the bar of the extension
I’m not so keen on this as the whole weight of the wheel and tyre will be resting on the cross brace and it’s only thin steel
It may be alright but I certainly wouldn’t want someone standing or sitting on it.

  4. Thanks mate but I’ve not done a lot to be honest
I’ve just had a pile of bits powder coated and bolted some of them on.
It will be back to sanding and painting once the weather warms up.

  5. Fitted the ball and pin and tow hitch.

Also fitted the top hat rubbers but there’s not enough compression in them to allow the spring latches to locate in the receiving holes.
So I’ve ordered some shallower ones to try.

I think down the line it will get modified again to loose the spring pins and bottom bar and have it fasten to the hinge panel above the engine lid like Devon did.

Yes the original German bumpers are a whole different thing- stiffer and springier. New ones you can bend out of shape easily..
