Petrol leaking into oil

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Lord Congi, Nov 20, 2011.

  1. Since my vans been mended when I park on my drive (on a slope) petrol has somehow been leaking into the oil and then pouring out onto the drive from the sump the 1st time and now from the rocker covers ,changed the carbs to another set which wernt quite right and then put the old ones back on and the same thing has happened ,the mechanic has cloeaned the carbs ,any ideas how this could happen?

    What's your fuel pump like??

  3. my engine in my mk1 golf had fuel in the oil due to slack and pitted piston rings? just a thought you could have a damaged one thats leaking fuel in to it ,
does it start and run ok ,good compression ?

i've had diesel in the sump caused by cracked heads letting it past the injectors on a landy...i'm no expert on petrol cars least of all vw's but i hope it's not that, TD5 discos have a tendency to do it a lot then overrev while running on the engine contents even with the key out until the engine goes bang.....

  5. has a leaky diaphragm i'm guessing

  6. Sounds like the diaphram in your fuel pump is split

  9. Is the pump switching off when the ignition is switched off?

goes without saying you need to watch your oil level isnt too high and the oil will now be too thin to lubricate proprerly if it's had petrol in so you need to change the oil and get this fixed a.s.a.p

I had fuel everywhere from parking on a slope which led to the floats sticking and constant flooding. Parking nose down should stop that happening.

Had to get low loaded to a garage and have the engine drained.

  14. good piont could be the floats not shuting the fuel off at an angle

  16. thats really the only thing i can think of ,best to get a compression test to see if any are low then go from there .
if you have changed the carbs as well what are the chances of it doing the same with diffrent carbs

  17. Sorry dont think my original post is helpful.
I did change the carbs as I got a 2nd hand engine and this problem happened right away ,swapped back to the old carbs which didnt run right so the mechanic cleaned the other ones and put them back on but same thing has happened?
    Could the carbs cause this?

    Cheers for the replys everyone.

  18. You should be able to hear/feel the petrol pump running if its electric

  19. i would strip the carbs down mate its easy and cheap really could be a needle valve for the float chamber bent or sticking
