in all seriousness L.C if you're driving it with petrol in the oil your engine will be dead soon, get this sorted quick or you'll be on engine 3.

  9. Whats to worry about ,I've now got 3 credit cards going to collection because of this :)
    Its been fun though.

  10. check your float/s to make sure they are shutting of at the right level and not flooding . mine peed all over the drive while we were out and the next door neighbour rung us to come home and stop the flood of fuel

  11. a type 1 engine will leak past the pump where a type 4 won`t ...fuel can syphon past the electric pump if parked on a hill i think depending what pump and where it is located or it could be the float or needle valve

  12. OK just had a word with my mechanic and it turns out these are my original carbs that are fitted so this issue has happened with 2 different sets of carbs ,the only time it has occured is when I've had over 1/2 a tank of fuel - not sure if this is just coincidence?

    Cheers everyone :)

  13. if you have an electric fuel pump then no fuel should get through the pump at all when its shut off. If its electric you should be in the position where you can remove the fuel pipe from the carb side of the fuel pump and no fuel should come through at all. If it does then you need a new fuel pump. Its also possible that if you've got the wrong pump fitted then the pressure that its supplying fuel to the carbs is too great which will knacker the carbs.

When you turn the key on to half way so you get electrics but not to start the engine you will hear the pump pumping if its electric. If its a quiet one you may have to go to the back to hear it.

Don't run the engine at all if there is fuel in the oil, it WILL feck the engine good and proper - if you haven't already. You need to get the problem fixed, drain out the oil, fit a new oil filter and put new oil in. Sounds like you've got another mechanic who doesn't really know his way around a VW all too well. You need to move to civilisation mate
    :)
