US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to dismantle the Department of Education, fulfilling a campaign pledge and a long-cherished goal of some conservatives.

Accusing the agency of "breath-taking failures", the Republican president vowed to return the money it controls to individual states.

"We're going to shut it down as quickly as possible," Trump said


However, all is not as it seems. The White House acknowledged that closing the agency outright would require an act of Congress - so he can't shut it down and dismantle it entirely.

USA will become a completely unregulated free for all that the rest of the world won't touch (financially) with a barge pole, or will treat as a casino where they can manipulate the results without fear of prosecution. Donald is right now shutting the departments that oversee the stock market, looking out for signs of corruption, insider dealing etc. Insider dealing is where it's at baby. Cancel the education department because "education is still rubbish". Americans aren't all daft, but on average they're way down the list at thirty something.
Abortion. Some states have now decided to criminalise abortion. Even in a life or death situation, you have to first get counselling, then appear before a judge when you've had 24 hours to ponder the situation. These states were previously not actually prosecuting anyone, but now they are. A midwife just got 23 years in Texas IIRC.
Social security. They've simultaneously closed all the phone lines, 25-30% of local offices and made it a requirement to either use internet or visit an office in person. Here's what the Commerce secretary, billionaire Howard Lutnik is peddling. He also has form chuckling away that the best way to weed out fraudsters is stop payments - everyone knows that. Anyone who complains is a criminal. I could probably find that one too if I tried but this is the same message, without the overt threat of cancelling everyone's cheques. You might not like Racheal, but Listen to Lutnik.

I thought he was a bloke off Fox News isn't he? Everyone remotely Blue at the top end of the military has been or is being fired and replaced with Reds.

Fox defended themselves in court for all the total crud they make up or put out unchallenged by claiming not to be a News channel, but an entertainment channel, so no need to be factual. I think they won.

Trump's going after big law firms now, you know, any that might have at any time dared to represent anyone he doesn't like. He says he'll decree that they aren't allowed in the courts for security reasons!

I've been keeping my eye on the madsters. Did I mention 3rd term? They're testing defying the courts. When someone is ignoring the rules, has his cronies in charge of the armed forces, has Elon's private army armed within government buildings and being used as marshals to forcibly take over government buildings.... What happens when the courts rule against him? He rants that it's unconstitutional that one judge can stop him, the ruler! They must be a bad Democrat judge and part of a plot. Who will ultimately stop him?
When he used a terrible law (that saw them making reparations to Japanese Americans after how they were treated in WW2) to deport 300 Venezuelans without trial on the pretext of having tattoos to a El Salvador detention camp, a judge in no uncertain terms ordered the planes to turn around and was ignored. The law is for wartime use. As far as I know USA is not at war with Venezuela but has now declared war on a gang with tattoos.

Of course they know very well they are breaking the law and the constitution which is why they do this stuff late Friday/early hours of Saturday. When VP said Trump could be America's Hitler he wasn't kidding. He must have thought about that when Trump won the primary's and decided to join the stompers rather than be stomped.

 

The chilling of democracy continues. A friend who is a known academic from the Netherlands has just cancelled a trip they were intending to make to present a paper. They have decided not to go because of the many academics that have been detained in recent days at US boarders. Their political views would not engender them to the current ICE henchmen that Trump has unleashed to guard America from thoughts that don't match their version of free speech.
