  5. Need to work that out really. Didnt really get a good look at MOT garage and assumed it would be a straightforward plating job and Id be back in a couple of days to get my ticket - till I got home and looked at it that is. Going to have to work out the logistics of getting this sorted as its not something I can do at home. Theoretically very urgent as if I had someone on tap to do it then id tell em to crack on but yet to find someone to do it. Dont attack it just yet!

  6. looks like you'll be doing a bit of bullet-biting in the near future Chris...don't get too disheartened though...it's not Col-esque as of yet ;)

  7. how bad was that van?

  8. If its to get MOT on it so you can drive it to get it sorted properly

Then it could be plated and pass
Ii used to know i tester whos phrase was i cant fail what i cant see

Not good enginnering practice but it would be stronger than it is now and your engine hasent fallen out yet

Once you see rot to that extent in the rear chassis rails it normally means a resto is in order

  12. Its the underside of that area to the inside - facing the engine as it were and possibly extending furher forwards than the area you circle.

You really need a cut or a panel, but don't get too excited about the panels - they come in two parts that don't line up with each other or the van without some adjustment.
I agree ^- you really need to whoop out the engine, cut away the seal holding layer, repair and re-instate. It's a big job just for that little bit.But I'm guessing your inner rear valance isn't too clever either, and likely the other side chassis in the same place. So while the engine's out...
Best thing would be if someone had crashed into the back...

  15. Bit the bullet and put it in the shop - picking it up tomos and assuming its been done to the required standard should be motd by tommorrow eve. Fingers crossed. Will post some pics and review soon as!!

MOT's are great - where else can you get such a thorough safety check for <£50?

And if you're like me it's quite handy to be forced into it once a year. :)

  20. Well.......................it failed SCREAM
Rusty grill pan and a badly worn fridge hinge!!!!

But seriously - actually not a biggy - had missed a small patch on the chasis - now done (and a very apologetic welder) . Hand brake was up on the scale around 300 either side! First time its worked properly in years! Back for retest tomos at 4!
