yeah I agree just an excuse to make a few quid it sounds like ...ask for an itemised bill to see what it includes lol

  5. We got away with it one year as I kept asking for a breakdown of what it covers until they stopped asking.

Last year they mislaid my cheque, never asked for another.

I just think its wrong. Why am I paying to stay where I am? If they were finding a new place for me then Fair enough

  6. Cant you have a chat with the LL and get rid of the letting agency? The LL would make a few more quid too.

  7. I have to play this one carefully as neither are aware of my current employment situation, and if it wasn't for my recent car taxneighbour issue I would have had the money to pay for said renewal.

Yeah postdate the cheque by a year that'll do lol

  10. the letting agency will be making a % out of the landlord, obviously they feel the need to make cash from the tenant as well...

    rip off..

  11. It is a rip off as I'm not their client and have no dealings what-so-ever with them.

  12.
  13. just dont pay it what will they do? send another letter? they got bored and gave up last time so chances are they will do the same this time as they know the charge is for jack Marmite!

As a LL I understand your felling of being ripped off. One agent once try to charge use twice for one visit. They went round did inventory when tenant moved out then claimed for doing it again when new one moved in on the same weekend.
    We soon told them.

We get charged for renewal as well not that you get anything its just rolled over.

You say you have no contact with agent. How did you get the tenancy if via agent then you are their client does not matter if you pay LL direct. If via LL AD then why is he/she using agent.

  16. OK so perhaps I am their client too then. Still £85 is still a lot of money for a roll over contract.

Looking online their are others that get charged £300!! so I've not got it terrible.

tuesday_wildchild it may be worth you looking into the supreme court oft case's, it seems many LL's have had their renewal fee's returned up to 6 years prior due to unfair charges. (PPI anyone?)

  18. God knows.

  19. Got to agree with Koolkam, don't pay it - they are not in a position to evict you. Besides, can you imagine how they would explain it if it got as far as court!!!

Tell them your not renewing and just go onto a rolling month by month contract.
