Rock n Roll Bed - What the best option if want a full width?

  1. Hello There -

I wondered if people wished to share their opinions on what Rock n Roll Bed would be best for me. (I have done a lot of research and think I know which option might work out best, but wanted to get some feedback). ;D

Currently I have an original 3/4 width Devon Bed, but I am re-doing the interior and wish to go for a full width bed.

The options are listed above in the poll and further details are here:

    Option 1: Rusty Lee Bed

    £180 (inc delivery)

    Option 2: bluebird-type2 Bed

    £300 (inc delivery)

    Option 3: Just Kampers

    £299

    Option 4: Volkswares Bed
    http://www.volkswares.co.uk/#/t2-bay/4552290970
    £285 (inc delivery)

Option 5: Extend the original 3/4 width frame
Cut and Extend the Frame to Full width using new steel insert to strengthen

One of my concerns is losing storage space underneath the bed by supports that dont fold away.
I also want to give consideration to the weight of the bed and the overall length.

Any and all views opinions welcome.

    Thanks

    Andy

  2. Looks like a no brainer to me. They all look the same, apart from price.

You've missed out the obvious. All the above are ok but if you want luxury and comfort sleeping and seating then you want a Westfalia
    :)

  4. A mate of mine has got his westy hinges at a fabricator at the moment for them to figure out the costing of re-making them.

  5. full width westy beds were in the 74/75 berlin interiors. mine is a 79 and a 3/4 width but i have started extending it in the hope that i can make it full width but go back to 3/4 width if desired.

  6. Ive got a full width rock and roll from blue bird and its great. Really easy to put it in. The storage under it is good as well I have 60lt LPG tank under mine.

  7. Bluebird for me. Well made, went in fine.

  8. What is the depth of the foam on a westy?

  10. Thanks very much for your replies thus far

The obvious option is reuse what I have, by cutting and extending. (not free as will need to pay someone to weld the new section in)
However it does look like its the best option overall.

Does anyone have a picture of the Westy bed thats being reffered to at all

    Thanks in advance

    Andy

  11. I'd keep your original bed if it's in good nick and complete...by the time you've chopped it, welded it, blast cleaned it, stove enamelled it, bought new base and boards, it won't be far behind a new one. Check fleabay for proper Latex matresses...single or double, it's far and away better than any of the foam offered by the specialists IMHO...all blubird's stuff is well made and well thought out (and no i'm not on a commission) ;)

  12. Ive just got an original Westy full width bed, which I may sell if I dont end up using.

No photos of it as yet though, it in storage at my mates place.

But found this online out of a Helsinki, not the best photo.

  17. cheers

  18. note the difference in thickness between the Continental and Helsinki/Berlin models. Much much thicker and so much comfier. Why the changed it is beyond me.

    Here is my Berlin interior.

Notice its nowhere near as nice as the Continental
