I have seen a Brazilian bus back in 2015 sitting near our local Halfords when it was about 4 or 5 years old according to the reg plates and the sills were scarred with big rusty patches . Not impressive.

They're in the field that we have just moved into, to plant our new blocks of trees.
    - I think they are the remains of last years squash planted by one of the farmers we share the land with.
As we haven't taken over the whole area I'm hoping they will be grown again this year.
    Very interesting shapes!

    Cheeky!

  6. Looking at them like that, they look very similar to early bumpers but without the front step.

  7. If it had been an old german bus parked there all rusted to hell, you'd be saying it was "cool" and had lots of "Patina" :p

I used to see plenty of German built buses covered in rust back in the early '80's too. There were plenty of buses and VW's in general with lots of rust on them at only 4 or 5 years old when they were still mainstream daily drivers. 70's German steel was really nothing to write home about either. My Granddads '72 Beetle was rotted beyond any sensible repairability by 1982, and my Dad's new '79 Golf had a rot hole in the wing and surface rust all over the sills at 3 years old, at 6 years, it needed new sills! It's easy to forget that most german buses (and VW's in general) were scrapped by 12 years old or so, before they became collectible. What we have now are only the looked after well, or restored survivors.

The reason a few years old Brazilian bus with some rust is shocking today is because we aren't used to seeing few year old vehicles with any rust any more, due to modern steels and galvanising. By modern build standards, a Brazilian bus is indeed very crap, as it's still built as they were back in the day, no zinc on the steel and no cavity wax injection, just like all the German buses were.

I've been over every inch of mine now, and whilst I agree they aren't the same as German quality, they are pretty good is all I'll say. Get a clean, rust free one that's not very old and rust proof it properly and it'll outlast most of the German crocks still rolling around today! ;)

  8. Yes, they are, the rear is almost exactly the same as an prototype bay, but without the side mounts for the dirt catcher plates.

Dropped the camper at my brother in law's this morning and cycled home.
He's a carpenter, but used to making big heavy oak garage doors and the like. He offered to help with progress of the interior. :) IMG_20240413_084646.jpg IMG_20240413_084641.jpg Screenshot_2024-04-13-10-38-09-583_com.strava-edit.jpg

What was it @Razzyh ? Is it the orchestral one? I’ve got tickets for that in Sheffield.

Moving house at the moment so having a sort out. I had a car load to go to the tip from the shed yesterday but looked at it and picked the better crud and did a car boot this morning, by 7 o’clock I’d made £130 and paid the field owner. Ended up with £216 and a bit of fun this morning!

At 7 o’clock I still had this lot left and what I didn’t sell went to the tip, apart from a snare and some Justkampers thermal window blinds that anyone can have for postage if they want them ( they need new suckers ) ;)
