If its the rear wheel, its the backing plate. Bend it..

Is there a copy of the Women’s Squeakly in the back?

  6. Spray everything inside the drum with wd40. The brakes wont work but the squeak will stop. No need to thank me.

p.s. Don't park on a hill after following this advice.

It’s probably the bar in the floor that connects the pedal to the mech that goes through the floor.
It’s a rod, inside a rod. Take the stabilising floor covers off, un hook the cable and dismantle it. Just wipe everything down with steel wool, and put back together with a little thin grease.
If you don’t, it may seize when you least expect it.
Did mine a few months ago. The covers can be tricky to get off as the screws may or may not be rusted in.

Or it is a random washer or clip sliding between the shoe and drum.

My drive shaft cv noise ( like a stone in the hubcap ) which I asked about on a different thread, turned out to be the horseshoe clip going around between shoe and drums.

    Sorted....

I'll have a long test drive later but little test drive... No noise/squeeking/rubbing.

I Stripped down and adjusted brakes half a dozen times, bent backing plate here and there.

Found the hub nut was not tight. Tightened and voila!

Thanks for all your suggestions both serious and not so... Appreciate it.

    Hmmm.

    Initial drive, no noise.

After the bus'd warmed up, squeeking began again... Much much less but there again.

When I touched the inner wheel (metal part inside the Holes, stock wheels) its hot.
    The other side only warm.

    Hmmmm.

    Still have to investigate.

    Any more ideas.

  16. Wheel bearings?

You realise if the drive shaft nut is loose, the splines start to go so the nut comes loose again until there are no splines left and it spins.

Worn bearings may also be making it run off true and rub.
Once bearings go bad they can melt..

    Still there.

    A scraping sound, not squeeking.
Most noticeable at very very slow speeds.

Recently changed brakes and had new tyres.

    Any more suggestions?

Backing plates still most likely. Or rust in the drums just catching on the shoes.

On inspection, the steel they were pressed from was a slightly different shape to the old ones I took off. The two bottom mount holes seemed to be raised slightly. I just flattened them with a hammer, and it’s all fine now.
