Status door rubbers anyone used/fitted them?

  1. Hi guys, got my bus back home and have started to put it back together,

I bought Status cab door kit, scrappers/rubbers and door seals, i picked these cause they stated that the majority of parts were gen vw and if not excellent quality german, they were also more expensive than the others out there,

buy cheap buy twice is my motto....

i have fitted the scrappers and quarterlights after having to cut them as they were oversized.
started fitting the lovley fitted and moulded door rubbers only to find they are to big  now am i fitting them wrong or are they to big? i would have thought that as they have been cut and glued for the shape they would be the correct size, anyone had the same trouble.
here are some pic's to see what i mean,

  2. where did you get them from......
i think your van is too small by 10%

  4. Status have always had the reputation of supplying good seals..

I got mine from them and No problems..

Yours do look wrong, what a shame.. Bet you're livid :(

Phone them tomorrow and tell them about this thread, so they can see your pictures..

I am sure they will agree that they don't fit..

  6. My Status seals were fine. Are you sure you're not stretching them while fitting? Easy enough to do.

  7. Have you tried fitting the corners first then pressing the straight sections in afterwards

  8. I fitted status ones and they seem to be good. you have to be careful not to stretch them as you go round, all too easy to do, make a conscious effort to do this and actually try to compress them as you work round. then they will fit fine hopefully

  9. You need to fit the corners first, then the middle sections and finally fit the rest of the seal that way you don't stretch them. it's really easy to do. Other tip is to dry fit them first

  11. all my seals came from status and all fitted with no problems

    did you stretch them ?

  12.
  13. Cheers guys

i will try them again, i did try starting in the corners but the middle sag was shocking,

its like they have forgotten to trim a bit off the length before they welded/glued the corners in.

Right i've just been in the garage and removed said door rubbers and will give it another go when its day light.

cheers for info i will start at the corners again and work my way to the middle.

Nope - start at the corners, then halfway between, the halfway again etc. The rubbers are made too big because they shrink over time. ;)

Along the cab door bottoms you want to stretch it a bit on the straight so you have some loose on the "knee" bit. If this part is too tight it can catch on the arch as you shut the door.

  15. if they're still too big fitting corners first, i'd be tempted to cut out the slack on the straight sections and glue the ends together with rubber solution (I used to work for Bodgeit and Scarper Autos ;D)

  16.
  17. Yep your all correct and i'm a ham fisted clopper... ;)

Took them out last night, and finished work early today and did as you all said and job's a good un ;D did both cab doors and rear hatch using the corner start and then middle etc, etc

just need to sort the latches out now as the doors are slightly out of line now, nice sounding clunk when you shut the door tho :D

    cheers for all who helped.

Slightly different question - these need to be glued in I assume - if so, at which points of the seal for cab doors and using what (contact adhesive etc?)

    Any ideas ladies and gents?

Baz - I like your bus buddy!
