Did you have to prise the spring plate onto the carrier lower stop?

Yes, or rather put the bolts in most of the way on the cover and then jack up the outer end of the spring plate on a bottle jack until it was above the bump stop then do up the bolts. I only had to use slightly longer M10 bolts to pull the cover in on one side, the other side the stock bolts just made it, probably because it was a quicker operation on that side, no need to chop up handbrake cable to get it to come out of places it was meant to slip out of..
Previously, there was 7mm clearance above the lower bump stop. It had remained the same for the last 10 years. Its now one inner spline up so it was overlapping the bump stop about 10mm or so.

  9. Which one did you go for in the end?

I went for the campervan culture ARB one in the end. I searched for cheaper ones, and whilst that part of it would save me money, by the time I'd bought the fixings separately it worked out more expensive. Plus, the material didn't have quite such a good waterproof rating. It's arriving today, so I guess we'll soon see if it was worth it!
There's still a small amount of doubt whether the fixings will have enough space in the gutter with my slight roof base overhang, but I'm burying my head in the sand and pretending.
It'll all be fine I'm sure.

  11. You won’t be disappointed with the ARB one but don’t expect a lot with the supplied led light strip.
I’ll look forward to seeing the pics of it fitted:)

To be fair, I'd rarely use the light strip, but you never know. Low lighting is good!
Are you coming down to Eddie's at the weekend?

  13. Unfortunately we won’t be down for this techenders

  15. Hello everyone,

new pressed wood for engine compartment insulation - the old original was wavy and hanging down.
Since it's quite tight with a built-in motor and I only have weak office worker hands , I got for that pneumatic rivet gun (almost my right color).
No more tedious agonizing with riveting pliers... :)

  16. Hello everyone,

next step now an upgrade for the upcoming second Sahara visit: a cyclone air filter,
which brings the sucked in air into a rotating air stream to filter out and collect the heavy parts at the edge.

For the T3 there was/is a small cyclone air filter with order number VW 025 129 695 with a transparent collecting container, the fill level of which can be checked very quickly and can be opened and emptied simply by the the brackets.

I placed this above the battery using a self-made holder. Normally the 65 mm cardboard tube for the air supply ends there on Type 4 engines with carburettors. Now I have to buy a suitable cardboard tube, mine I used the passed decade is from type 1 and too small.

    You are correct of course.
This is missing on 99/100 UK buses. To be honest I don't remember ever seeing on fitted. My first bus had a fuel pump strapped to the hose fitting next to the fuel filler inspection hatch and I worked out what should be there back then.
