I thought they looked like the Madmatz ones... and wondered why they weren't selling them any more! I'd say MDF box, glued and dowelled with nice hinges and locking button is probably worth £60 - 70. The curved edge and the big cup holes require a little tooling and little skill so justify the price. I've seen similar retail for a lot more which I was taken a back by!

At least he has kept the indicators in the correct clearly seen high position then

That would be handy because I would like to do a mini tart up over the winter. Equally I think the flat pack idea would suit me and some others great, we could personalise them and get a bit of satisfaction from doing some of the work ourselves, at the right price of course!

I thought they were very very nice and the price was pretty sensible, would you still do the more expensive one if requested ? the price of westfalia buddy boxes is similar

  10. Cool.:)

    Tuesday wildchild I'm a circle!

I have no idea really but for the young people you could make a bass box version. For show only so they buy and cut to fit their choice of speaker.

  13. Cool... Like this. (My one!):D

This crossed my mind earlier.... The mrs' has veto'd a sub under the bed as "it's really useful storage space" :/

  15. Would it be possible to knock one out for around £50? I'm interested but not really sure on how I'd finish it off.
Also do you fix them to something? Ordo they just plonk between the seats?

  16. See how it goes, there is alot of work involved in the bespoke veneer versions. Just want a simple box for the moment that peoples can have a play with...
I do want to make the Westy ones again though.. at some point.:)

Thanks for your interest, Ill keep you informed.

  17. Im trying to get the cost as low as I can, Im seeing if a flat pack one is possible.
Im going to build a kit and let my partner assemble it who has little DIY skills see how she gets on.
I just don't want hassle and bad feed back, what you see is what you get on this one! Im confident it will work though!:D

Pre drilled, small diagram put in a few screws bit of packaging - work out the time and material - offer discount to club members and put them at an higher price on ebay or similar, maybe offer them to suppliers - few shows too and hey presto your in business.

For my part I wouldn't want to be spending much above £40 + pp for an mdf flat pack jobby, but I'm a skinflint bay owner. I am sure there are lots out there who would pay double that and I am sure people would pay quite a bit more for other options, such as Westy versions, bespoke etc, just not me as I personally don't see things like this as a must have.

I am not trying to tell you how you should price them or criticising them in any way as I think they are a nice handy item, just giving you my input.

    Hope it helps:thumbsup:

  19. All input is welcome,:) thats why I asked! If I know what the people want I will try and accommodate as this scene if full of overpriced crap from abroad!
It would be nice to have something homegrown again!

  20. best of luck with it. The boxes look nice. I have a westy reproduced one with the green plaid top that was actually cheaper to buy in the USA and get imported than buy over here!

everyone likes a bargain but if folk add up a reasonable labour rate, materials, packaging, shipping etc. you generally get to a few quid and your prices seem fair enough. ikea can do cheap as they make thousands by machine in a factory far away, flat pack and then sell in big sheds. hard to compete with that but until they start selling VW furniture you should be Ok.

....and my Westy one cost loads more than you are asking.
