Nice- does it need a catch- if you were knocking out flat pack to the masses, would the catch be esssential?

    Just a thought!

  3. I was thinking the same thing. Those hinges are enough to hold it closed, and you'd just need a 2 finger sized hole to lift it up, maybe? (just thinking because people were talking about building it down to a price)

  4. No, the catches are something I have added, as the T -trim around the front. (These are 2 of the main costs)
Just demonstrating what can be done really.
Flatpack at low cost would be just the box and fittings.(instructions)
Prebuilt ones and other ones....will see how it goes. :)

  5. Least you understand!!!

  6. My Westy one retailed at £135.00, Walnut and Formica lid, T Trim, Adjustable feet... Too involved and time consuming!
People question why the cost.... Look at one next time you go to a show... they were a piece of art!

I understand - probably more than you realise, I did work for myself for years, but in today's market you have to be competitive, the market leader may make or break a business.

In your case I think the flatpack needs to be cheap and popular, the bespoke needs to be priced fairly to you and the customer. from what I can tell the original lot made people wince - but those people never understood the work involved and should have been a little more understanding. However they weren't and now we have the price debate?

think you have hit on a good product , I think the flat pack idea is a winner and I think the upmarket version is icing on your cake.

Then again - What do I know? best of luck with it, its a cracker:thumbsup:

  8. @myvanway 69 Can I ask what you used to cut out the slot for the t-trim please? I'm lloking at building some new units for the van over the winter and that looks like a really nice finish.

  9. This is just what I'm looking for, so watching with interest.

Maybe offer flatpack plain mdf for the skinflints those on a budget, and a customising service for those that want something extra and are willing to pay - after all the market is made up of all sorts of people.

  10. A router & Trimming blade.
I also have a Oldskool Plane that duz the same job... but requires more effort!!

  11. Might do 2 sorts... will see!
DIY Jobbie and a Oak veneer one, Just want to keep it simple though for the time being!:)

  16. Fitting is at the owners discression, if they put it in the walk through it is advised that it is secured whilst vehicle is in motion.
Mine is secured via a L shaped bracket from the box to the side of the walk through, on butterfly (Wing nuts) so it can easily be removed when camping/parked up.
Due to the variations in interior, it is down to the common sense of the owner to make sure it is secured whist travelling. I just say how ive fitted it!:)
