Tories

  1. This lot are even more light weight than the last lot and jeez they are stupid but perhaps more entertaining. I'm convinced there must be someone else actually running the country and this lot just fanny about all day working out how to get more money out of the sytem. Bit like doley dossers!!

Boris - I'd buy a ticket to see the guy any day
Theresa May  Bring back Mrs Slocombes pussy!!

I don't have much time for any of them of whatever political shade... by them I mean the cabinet, and shadow version too. I was amused by the Theresa May "cat" furore though. If anyone didn't hear it, mrs May was claiming an illegal immigrant got out of being deported because he had a pet cat, said in one of those Daily Mail "you couldn't make it up" styles. Well, according to some in the judiciary who were involved with the case and may be more informed than the home sec, it was made up and simply not true. Even Ken Clarke waded into the argument by saying he doubted someone would not be deported just becuase they had a pet cat. Tsk, its political correctness/health n safety/some other do-gooder type thing, gone mad....

  3. You'v gotta love the Daily Mail! - Nothing like a bit of mild xenophobia to stir the middle classes!

i've swung over to all the main parties during my 24 years of being allowed to vote, 1st voted labour because as a young kid my dad was a labour councilor and i knew no better, voted tory for years, then when it actually looked like the lib dems had a chance a few years ago i gave them a go, last time out i voted tory again, i've come to the conclusion that it don't make 1 jot of difference who i vote for, they are all crap and i end up poorer.

  5. I've no doubt that we'd be in a far worse situation right now if Labour were still in power. The Tories have inherited and bravely dealing with a dire situation. I think most folk don't appreciate just how severe things are. At no time before in history has the economic situation been anywhere close to as bad as it is now. It's easy of course for the opposition to say the Tories are doing this and that wrong. Labour can't be entirely blamed for the current mess, but it's fair to say that they are to blame for the level of our country's debt. That alone makes our situation a lot worse than what it could have been. The Government is made up of both Tories and Liberals of course. Such a wide spectrum at this time can only be a good thing for our country.

  6. Lets get this straight, it was the banks that caused this recession not the previous government. All the previous government are responsible for is not reeling the banks in. Anyone who thinks a conservative government would have done so is naive. Don't get me wrong the previous labour government should have done better and failed miserably. This tory one is no different to the ones in the 80's. Cuts, strikes, unemployment riots. 1980's anyone? All they do is blame labour for the mess the bankers gave us. I'd have more respect for the present government if they actually blamed the banks more than they blame labour. It the fault of the banks but it is also the fault of America which had the dodgy mortgages in the first place. Greed caused this recession and we ALL played a part in it. But hey lets just blame someone else.

I am under no illusion as to the contribution the previous government played a part for the mess we are in. I just understand that that is only a small part of the whole story.

As for Clegg and the Lib Dems, well they are just a group of wishy washy busy bodies with no direction other than hanging onto the coat tails of whoever is in power.

Dont get me started on the daily mail. I wouldnt wipe my ---- with that right wing piece of dross.

Anyway as i've said elsewhere, we get the governments we deserve. We've been greedy idiots, hence why we've got this lot of no hopers. But hey lets all get on our soap boxes and blame labour. Its easier than looking at ourselves.

Our level of debt is based on how much we had to spent to bail out the banks. The banks took our money and we encouraged it. Buying houses at over 5 times our incomes etc with over 100% morgages. If these people find themselves in trouble i have no sympathy as its those morons that drove up house prices and caused me a headache getting onto the mortgage ladder. But at least i paid a 20% deposit and restricted myself to 3x our salary. Sure we never got a fancy big house and i had to move to a cheaper area but i have no debt and can manage my money. I also have 3months salary as savings just in case. People spending what they never had caused this and the banks facilitated it.

  7. Cameroon is a total idiot .... i understand that the UK economy is a mess - but saying everyhouse hold must clear its debts it stupid.

It doesn't matter who you vote for, if you vote for a politician you end up with a politician.
    They're all the same.

  12. it always makes me laugh, whoever is in opposition just gloat when something goes wrong. with a load of hingsight they always go on that they would have done something different etc!
    how easy is that job?
historically it seems to me that the labour party always have their fingers in the till and we end up skint and the tories have their fingers in their secretaries and we end up with sleaze
its at times like this i miss screaming lord sutch!

The easiest option for any politician is of course to point fingers at their predecessors.
This has happened since the beginning of time and will continue to do so.

  16. Iv decided to keep my politics and vw's separate . This subject is one that no one can win or ever agree on. So I can't see the point of discussing it.

    So I'm out ;)

  17. Brave subject on here!

I think democracy is in big trouble in the UK. I used to vote left and green but having spent some time working for councils and witnessed some of the shenanigans I've started spoiling ballet papers.
There is no choice anymore, the government machine is so entrenched and bloated that a mere politician trying to change things or even understand how it all works is unlikely. The very polarisation of politics into 'right' and 'left' is defunct and unfit for purpose. I'm much more interested in the ability of individuals influencing decisions that effect them directly, an x on a piece of paper every 4 years is almost irrelevant and certainly carries no guarantee that your preferred candidate will carry out one single election promise.
The tories do have a particular way about them. The local tory councillors have been caught out meeting with land developers in monte carlo. theyve been trying to manoeuvre the sell off and demolition of some council river side flats (all newly refurbished), prime estate for yuppie villas by the thames. The local councils are riven with councillors and employees brokering under the table deals for maintenance contracts etc..
So all very depressing really, we have a political system that's screwing us all over, no 'Star Trek' future for us then .. :'(

  18. I'l nail my colours to the mast in that Ive always voted Labour and ive never understood why working class people would vote Tory. Perhaps because the stupid majority cant see beyond their land of hope and glory. The educated middle classes and the toffs - fair enough. An interesting fact repeated from newsnight - If women didnt have the vote then there would have been a Labour government continuously since 1945. (bloody women!)
