VW AIRCOOLED WORKS - Product safety forum offer

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by VW Aircooled Works, Apr 25, 2014.

  1. Hi,

we have all products in stock and ship the day after payments received, shipped by courier to any place of choice, not just to one address.

As such we are offering a 15% reduction to any forum member for any order quoting this thread - all prices are on our website

    www.vwaircooledworks.co.uk

no minimum number of people on a list - that just does my head in. The offer is open now and valid until the 25/05/2014.

So you can send us emails on peter@vwaircooledworks.co.uk or via the forum. I can then prepare an invoice with the offer price and send it for bank transfer.

We make the fuel kits to order - basically if you are running standard VW set up of fuel tank/hardline/mechanical pump and solex carb all will be 6mm. If you are running twin carbs will be 6mm tails for 34/36 and 8mm tails for 40/44. We make the hard line profiles that goes through the tinware over barrels 3&4 in 6mm or 8mm. Only other issue is the fuel pump - you need to check the tails inlet and outlet on the pump to see if 6mm or 8mm.

VW Aircooled Works understands the fuel delivery issues and the complexities once you start modifying. I get so many vans in that are running 7mm fuel line of 6mm tails and it is just asking for trouble.

Our fuel cut-off solenoid is solid state and incorporates a ceramic filter and magnetic ring to collect any crud from the tank. It does not have a plastic relay like the usual Ebay stuff I source these myself and make the solenoids to order with 6mm or 8mm tail options. All our fuel lines are ethanol resistant and the ones in the solenoid kit are good for at least 25 years life

We are all about trying to improve VW classic safety and all our products are tried and tested on our restoration vans before we launch to market. Our fire suppression system is the only product approved for NASCAR - they do not allow foam or powder in USA. It works by removing the heat energy from the fire NOT like CO2 that removes oxygen. It is charged at high pressure to cause displacement pressure to stop the air entering the engine bay so it will not be blown away like some people claim. The gas is active at levels of 6% as it does not work by replacing oxygen it is a chemical process. The gas comes out at minus 19 and with the removal of the heat energy this will effectively prevent re-ignition risk by removing petrol vapour.

I am happy to talk to people by email or mob at anytime to ensure that fire risk is reduced to a minimal chance of occurrence.

    Kind regards

Standard is 5.6mm so is 6mm as close as you can get?
I asked before but never got an answer so I'll try again: Do you guarantee the ethanol resistant fuel line for 25 years?
    Cheers

  12. The hose I received was marked 5.5id if that helps any

  13. Hi Baysearcher,

the outer diameter of the brass tails on the std vw mechanical pump and solex carb plus the tank outlet is 6mm. In order to ensure that the fuel hose is secure the inner diameter of the hose should be around 15% narrower. As such 5.5mm ID is the perfect hose for the job.

This hose has a very high 'grip force' so that when the hose is fitted it is hard to pull it off. If you come along to a show and visit our stand I will show you the hose on a 6mm OD kunifer hard line and it is virtually impossible to remove the hose with a straight pulling action.

Regarding 8mm tails such as 40 and 44 carbs the hose again should be narrower, hence we supply 7.3mm ID.

The material is inert to fuel and in particular ethanol and can run on 100% ethanol. As such the 25 years life on this product is really a minimum as in effect the hose will not deteriorate. As such unlike rubber it will not harden or crack. If the product was to breakdown due to petrol then yes we would replace it.

Clearly the engine bay is a harsh environment in particular heat, the hose is resistant to limited exposure to 150 degrees centrigrade. The burst pressure due to the re-enforced core is over 700psi so this is a high quality piece of engineering.

We are next at Alive and Dubbin and will be at some 10 shows over the summer all the way up to Busfest and Brighton. I am happy to go through the technicalities of the products as chemistry was my former profession.

    Kind regards
    Peter

I get that 5.5mm would be good, (not perfect, that'd be 5.6mm as original) but your advert up top says it'll be 6mm?
If you do guarantee it for 25 years you should add that to the advert as it is a major USP.

  16. Thanks, the different composition of this product not being rubber means that 5.5mm ID is the ideal fit. This is what VW and BMW currently use on all their top end cars that run 6mm fuel injectors and tails. As such this is the perfect fit for this type of construction of hose. Being non-rubber it will also not deteriorate and crack hence why with rubber hose there is a slighter wider ID, but we are only talking 0.1mm.

I tend to get customers to check what OD tails and fittings they are running, as I mentioned so many vans converted to electric pump that have 8mm tails are running with hose squeezed on to breaking point.

Thanks for the comment on the USP at the shows we state this and also in the thread. Perhaps as I am so technically minded I haven't made it clear, but when the product is totally resistant to petrol and ethanol it will never deteriorate due to that reason. Hope to see you at a show, cheers for your comments, Peter

  17. Wow your stuff sounds excellent, I think it would be a great idea if someone sold a kit of all the parts needed cut to length and complete with all the clips etc.
There is a firm in the USA who do this, be nice if a UK company did it. :)
I did started a thread in relation to fuel breathers earlier on today because I once lost a bus to fire:-
    http://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/avoid-a-fire-everyone-should-read-this.38433/

  18. we in effect do that, if you check our website we do kits for single and twin. Also do kits for fuel injection with the 11.5mm OD that fits the big square injection filters so try to cover most options.

We dont actually cut to length to allow for different set ups. However, it is simple remove the old hose one at a time and use this as template to cut the hose to length.

Our kit has the fuel clips and also the inline filters plus a free car sticker!!

also happy to tailor make kits and if you sent your old lines we can cut to length Free of charge. Also supply the kunifer hard line.

Any issues send me an email on peter@vwaircooledworks.co.uk.

I did write (well my wife mostly I was editor) the Worst Nightmare article in hayburner that covers things to check to avoid fire. We are happy to install fire systems, fuel solenoids and the 25 year fuel lines at our workshop and go through the safety issues to reduce engine bay fires.

  19. This kit is really easy to fit, every single part you need is included, screws, bolts, electrical connectors, fuel clips, even a drill bit. All I needed was some simple tools

  20. Well done M8, we all need a company like this. :)
