DVLA may not recognise a vw birth certificate as proof of age, they never for me and this was 2 weeks ago, I had to join the "vw owners club gb" and get them to clarify the date and age of my vehicle, they are an approved club from the dvla website, there is a contact number for the club chairman who is very helpfull When I spoke to DVLA regarding the birth certificate the answer was it's not on the list, From sending the paperwork off to receiving the rejection letter back was 4 weeks, I was told that was quick, they are advising up to 12 weeks I hope this helps,
Dvla is a joke How can they not accept a certificate from the manufacturer of your vehicle to prove its age but they will accept a letter from a club Thank for the input
They had 2 options, 1st was 25 one off payment for the verification 2nd was join the club for the remaining term of membership which was 15
they accepted a copy of my birth certificate , no problem. took the log book to the post office and they sent the doccuments off
Cheers I’ve just taken a look at the website and even the club claim that they have checked with the dvla and the vw data sheet will be acceptable to the dvla but if you can’t obtain one then the club will write a letter which the dvla will accept. https://vwocgb.com/vw-age-certificates/
This is getting stranger and stranger It seems everyone is getting different answers and responses from the dvla.
What I wrote above is just my experience, it could have been a dvla employee not realising that it is acceptable I'm still waiting
There you go @paradox, no offence intended with the blanking out and it's not about anyone on here but it's an open forum - any knobhead can grab an ID if it's out there ...
Cheers mate I’ve been a right Wally I didn’t see the special notes on the front page of the v5 Mine says was registered/used overseas. Declared manufactured 1978 So I won’t have any hassle having to prove it’s age Thanks muchly to all who replied trying to help
