Rega for the win

Rega's best feature is having no indication that the turntable's going, so you come back months later and find it's still going round...

 

I bought one of these second hand in the late 70's for about £40.


And these Goodmans Dimension 8 speakers for about £120 second hand. They had 4 x 4" bass drivers, a 10" radiator, 2 mids and 2 tweeters in each cabinet. 40w at 4 ohms they sounded like the band was in the room. Look small on the photo but they're about 3ft high.

 

Is it Beogram from (I love the name) Bang & Olefson?

 

It is. Excellent despite the showy design.

The speakers I edited onto the post were from another world. I was in the hifi shop with a large wad of cash trying everything he had against those and no matter how much they cost, these were way ahead, so clear and massive deep sub bass.

 

Had my Rega running for a month. Only noticed when the light caught it one evening

 

You should play it more often

 

I fitted a brand new stylus to my turntable (not rega unfortunately), played a load of tunes before going out on the lash with mates.

Came back to find the turntable still going round, what a waste of needle!

 

I use those new-fangled CDs now. They’ll never catch on, tho’

 

I gave away some old wooden beogram equipment, about 20 years ago.

 

CD sound quality is rubbish compared to records

 

Ah, those obsolete old things, streaming is where is now at Snots

 

Some of the streaming rates are terrible for sound quality.

I think BBC stuff over wifi is better bit rate (or whatever you call it) is better than what they broadcast digitally

 

Agreed, some streaming is poor, but I bet there's a few Spotify etc converts on here.
