You're just trying to flog your bits .... I know your sort. But seriously, despite new arms and blades, and a new screen not long ago, the juddering drives me mental....I do a manual intermittent wipe, but I worry that won't be doing the switch much good.
They will judder on a dry screen. Likely one winding on the motor has expired if you've only got one speed.
You do realise that it will all end in my embarrassment if I can't do it and @scrooge95 already has !
The permanent magnets do weaken with time, so wiper motors do run with less torque (and draw more and more current burning switches) as the years go past. A freshen up of the switches sped up my old motor on the slow speed, dropping the switch resistance from 1 ohm to basically 0 ohms. But because the "fast" setting starts off with less torque, with a brush about 135 degrees rather than 180 degrees round the commutator, the motor can run faster at low load but with old magnets its not able to get up to speed.. so it gets hot instead.. So its only with a new motor it finally runs fast on a dry screen. The combo of a £12 relay and a £20 ish motor makes a great difference. Plus a little bit of metal and some wiring ..
Pffffft. I'm currently drawing the line at stuff that, when I balls it up, means I can't drive it to a mechanic! Slowly slowly.
Gah! If you mess it up, throw all the gears and bits into a Tesco bag and send them to @theBusmonkey . He'll sort them out
Oh frabjous day! My wipers now also wipey! Two speeds to boot, didn't have that before. Here it is with the snotty kit installed, everything fit straight off, thanks so much. Not super quick, I put that down to not being able to get the spindles out to lubricate them - I couldn't get the circlips off, instead I stabbed myself in the finger and went inside to find a plaster. I did oil everything I could, though.
I am slightly envious of people who's vans have had the full resto... it all looks so clean and fresh behind the dash, with wiring that other wiring plugs into easily. Mine was a 50 year old sh**-tip in there, with original VW wire blocks for 50 year old spade connectors, and very dull old looking wires. And I didn't have any circlips that I know of. On the plus side, it rained today so I got to test it all out
I know , I try not to look as it upsets me too , but that is awesomely clean Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Try and lube the spindles up - penetrating oil? Stiff 'uns probably the main cause of the motors expiring.
