Got a feeling this job needs to be on my list too, Mork. Can you tell me where you bought the seals, pistons etc?

Quite a few off here have used the kits successfully, which is reassuring!

  7. Lifted the roof up for the first time probably since about 1996, the canvas still looks fine, seems I've roof number 2237, unfortunately one of the hinges didn't fair so well.

Yes indeed they did. The set looked very good, all cut outs tally up with ATE manufactured ones, seals are steel banded.

Nice job Simon. What did you use as that's another job on my list. Also need to do the bit above the engine as that's disintegrated too.

  12. I looked around and decided that £30 plus P+P was too much from here https://www.asap-supplies.com/soundproofing/fire-protection-sheets/quietlife-firebatt-801124

so went with the eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Self-adh...var=440428333430&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

£13.99 posted ... also I went 25mm and that still needed tucking in so the top link I suspect would have been too thick

Drove over to see Steve at Gassure in Chester......he helped when I broke down last summer, so I thought I would give him a little work...he fitted electronic ignition for me and set up carbs....ran sweetly over Woodhead.....all ready for the North Coast 500 starting Sunday.

When he put dizzy back in, he fitted a proper flat seal on the shaft instead of the O seal that my previous "expert" had used.......was the O seal a bodge or acceptable practice?

  15. It should be a D shaped O-Ring, or at least was when new.

This is what Heritage sell, hard to see if it's actually correct but probably not https://www.vwheritage.com/026905261-distributor-shaft-seal-vw-spare

  16. Back from a romp around the Hampshire countryside. He's such a well-behaved fellow (apart from piddling oil down one mudflap).

  17. Thought I'd better get cracking on finishing the cupboards ... couple of doors veneered and a coat of matt varnish on one to see what it looks like

Put a load of crud covered parts from the shell in boxes so I can actually see the cargo floor .... so practically finished the project then:rolleyes:
I'd do a resto thread but we'll have Alzheimer's and be working at Asda by the time it's done so what's the point?

  19. We went for a trip up the motorway to The Forest of Bowland, Stocks reservoir to throw fluff at the water. Fish were very obliging despite string cold winds.. getting on to collecting one for tea next.

Found she runs a lot better with all the leads pushed onto spark plugs, was down to 3 cylinders most of the way (possibly intermittent 2).. thought she was feeling sluggish but put it down to hibernation or too much slack in accelerator cable after high idling trouble.. which turned out to be the linkage dampener unscrewing itself to hold throttle open...next new job to look into clunking sound when turning right...
