  1. A few more.

2000 a few rusty bits resulted in almost complete resto

Techenders when the bus wasn’t well. Think I’ve been in the bug a couple of times so not sure what year these are. Oil change, some electrics fettling and @moosey finding a hole in his rear floorpan!

  4. hahaha... get them! i do think it's be a type 3 next (if there's a next) - ghia's and 356's being way out of budget nowadays!

But i have dreams of putting Dougal into storage until my nephew can drive - he's 8 :D

  5. Love the reg "KEUL" , that's how we'd used to say cool when wuz younger.

As you said the gearbox has some residual value, if the worst were to happen; that would be such a shame, however.

  7. Agreed, just time and, unfortunately, money.

Save him if you can, you can't put a price on the memories.

  8. ... and i also need a daily :) I've flirted with the new fiat 500 a few times, if i was to ever buy a modern car, but even i can't justify three vehicles! :D

I've used the camper as a daily a few times over the years but i'd prefer not to for short trips.

  9. Why was you miss sulky pants with your hands in your pockets :D

  10. Three vehicles, gone on, why not? It's your money, after all. I justified it to myself by saying, tax and insurance on the old ones is cheap. The new one is cheap to tax and costs buttons on fuel and its built to survive the amount of salt on the roads in Scotland in winter.

  12. that's the same argument i use to convince myself! :D

but... I think i'll get the bus sorted, see what Dougal needs and then re-evaluate from there. at the moment i work from home and live near a train station so i'm not in need so much. That will probably change soon - or maybe i sell the house and go on adventures for the next decade?!

  15. nice bug!
unfortunately Dougal couldn't be a body off because the previous owner had welded to the floor pan :(

  16. I liked the extra space under the bonnet on those but i wanted a flat screen. Thankfully the previous owner didn't realise he was a GT

  17. Oh, why, oh why do folk do that?

[Pedant alert, I know why, but that doesn't make it clever.]

  18. Aren't the wheels a give-away?

To me 1303s look like they have small heads, or big bottoms, unless they are cabrios, in which case they look odd when the roof is up. Flat screens rule.

  19. they were marathon wheels originally - think the jeans beetle used them too. maybe he just wasn't fussed. It came with a whole file of data on new engine fuel consumption etc. i think he was a geek :)

  20. It still can be done it just means the welding needs to be unpicked.
My mate had a bus where someone had welded plates from the chassis rail to the beam
