  4. Forgot to mention, the smashing mick the welder is nowadays a car accident repair assessor type person and he’s thinking of ideas to make our buses safer in the event of a front end bump; ie so we get to keep our legs!

I don’t know about you lot but there’s always a point when I slam my anchors on -usually some knob cutting me up and braking!- when my foot’s to the floor, I’m hurtling towards their rear end and I think ‘at what point am I going to try to wrap my legs up around my ears?’

  6. Slow progress but he’s getting there. I have to try to keep in mind that he’s never going to be perfect, I want to use him and everything I do is better than it was.

I do keep forgetting and getting obsessed with getting ALL the rust off. D’oh!

  7. It's easy to get carried away, but unless you have a show car, it's probably best to keep the little "OCD" devil sitting on your shoulder egging you on, under control, otherwise you'll never finish.

  12. Feeling in hands slowly returning so here’s another pic after underseal scraping.

My bus was Sumatra green originally but the paint under the floor is a lot lighter green.
    I like it.

  16. a guilt present. i've neglected both of them for years

  17. It’s looking in quite good condition underneath erm
Before you come to paint it you will need to thoroughly degrease everything especially the left over residue from the underseal
Then it’s going to need scouring to provide a good key for the epoxy paint
Panel wipe and a roll of green scotchbrite are your friends for this along with lots of old rags.

Putting time and effort into the prep at this stage will pay off in the end and help your bus stay good for years to come

I was thinking of a bug challenge at techenders - see if we can get my bug all sorted and well again in a weekend??!

Poor Dougal is in a much worse state but that’ll have to be axle stands in the street job.

  20. Arghh poor Dougal , not so nice doing it on Axle stands . Are you on any good bug forums , I’ve been trying to find my first ever Beetle that I had when I was 17 , I’ve done a Dvla search and it has been on sorn for a few years .
