Got some new bits today. Fitting a new belt and fresh oil tonight and then getting her over to Kombi tomorrow morning for their advice and repair if needed. Will let you know how it goes.
Also got the rest of my emergency kit bits through; spare cables for each foot pedal and a spare fuel filter.

Ok, so it looks like I'm through the other side of this little incident now. Kombi Klassics got back to me today; they've fitted a new top pulley (I'd noticed that it didn't look right and had ordered a new one anyway, so will give them this new one and just pay for labour). Picking Iris up tomorrow ready for our trip back to see my parents for Xmas on Sunday. Looks like I got lucky on this occasion. For any new dub owners (me included!) ALWAYS CARRY A SPARE FAN BELT!

  3. Thats good news, I hope the trip goes well, Merry Christmas!!

What i do is fit the new parts and keep the old ones as the spares
That way you know the new parts fit
You should be less lightly to break down in the first place
You know the old parts work so can be useful for diagnosing a problem

The old pulley was knackered. I'm keeping the pulley I bought as a spare though, so I have a brand new one fitted and a new one lying around should I need it.
