Fishing is great and very relaxing and you get to meet good people. My advice is to join a local club near you and with the tackle start simple. local tackle shop can advise. Also call in to your local private non club fisheries and speak to the anglers and owners there, lake fishing is good to start and private fisheries have parking and they are safe places. Leave river fishing for a while as it can be dangerous. if you slip on the bank at a lake you can get out, but with a river you may struggle. I fish mostly at Frant Lakes these days as its a typical private well stocked fishery and its local and cheap. Google it to get the general idea. Lots of folks on here do fishing and will offer advice. Stick to local fishing to start with. You don't need loads of expensive equipment. I fish for carp with simple rig, rod, reel, line, hook, bait and big soft mesh landing net. I catch just as many big carp as the other folks with their expensive gear and bivvies.
I fished the cut as a kid for the usual gudgeon, perch, roach and sticklebacks, but never really enjoyed fishing until I bought a run down old house on the banks of the Severn at Bewdley in 1988 and it came with a mile of fishing rights along Hawkesbatch ( in cattle drinks and people's back gardens, It was shared right) . Everyone locally was a fisherman and heavily into competition fishing. I got back into it as a respite from building all day and soon caught my first big ish barbel (3lb ) from then on I fished the Severn regularly for 15 years. I just do a bit of beach casting when I am on my hols in Cornwall these days.

I like fishing from moving trains, the bluebell railway which runs from east grinstead to Sheffield park is one of my favourites, as we pass by the lakes at Kingscott we cast our rods from the open windows, the smoke from the engines seems to attract the fish
Gary Bolt, I think he went to Southfields, he would be 59, the last time I saw him was over 20 years ago
I`ve always fished as long as i can remember and up to a couple of years ago i always had a rod and basic kit in the van - great for passing the time if you`re away for a while , and if you want excitement put a hook on Need to get another kit together i reckon
You really should try dangling your maggot in the Avon bud. It is very therapeutic if you get a nibble.
It's the future ! Fly fishing a true gentlemen sport Must go this year as I haven't been for a couple of years. We know it can be quite expensive but the advantages are less gear to carry and your active casting continually. Trout give a great fight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In my youth, used to watch them all angling in the canals around Brum from the train into New Street. God only knows what kind of fish lived in the murky depths...
this has been on my list had a quick go but its a whole new game and seams to revolve around money even the licence is more
I know , i know .... I could finish work at 6am on Saturday morning , jump in the van and be fly fishing in the Dales near Grassington by 7.30 . Loved the freedom of it all - now i live in `That London` and haven`t fished since moving house and sold all my tackle ..
