Cheers Owen Yeah I'm good dude I've recently got into running so I've been spending a fair bit of time out and about on the country lanes Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Painted up I need to order a few bits then I can start building the rear lhs back up Drive shafts and cvs to overhaul after that then I can get the back end down on the ground Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've removed the cv joints from one of the drive shafts ready to clean up and inspect. Are decent quality cv boots available yet or are they all still utter Marmitee that doesn't last? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
@paradox VW Heritage do a decent set; we bought some from them, they have lasted 13 months so far opposed to the 6 months the GSF Car Parts ones lasted!
Is there any sign of degrading on them Marc Do you have a link to the ones you bought please? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No signs of degradation yet, thankfully! Here you go: https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/bay...ding-grease/?crumbStartPage=1&crumbStartRow=1
VW CV joints were originally made by GKN Lobro. GSF sell Lobro cv joint kits, as well as cheaper ones. 439VG0020 is the part number for GKN Lobro kit -I don't know if they just sell 'genuine' boots
Having a look on eBay I can get gkn Lobro boots complete with bolts and circlip for £11.79 each or febi bilstein complete with bolts circlip and grease for £10.90 each It's free postage with both of them aswell. I'll pop down the local motorfactors and see if they will better the price on the same brands Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My GKN ones were replaced a few months ago after only lasting 12 months .....disappointed ....ALL are Marmitee I don't get VW heritage calling theirs genuine VW as they were LOBRO originally
That's not good to hear☹️️ The ones I've taken of are over 10 years old and are just starting to show signs of degrading but not split yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I fitted these ones. As I wasn't paying heritage prices and they were a different make . Although they came from USA .... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111783865860?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
How are they looking so far? I'm wondering if I can separate the pressed steel part from an old boot to remove the rubber then fit a polyurethane boot and press the retaining part back again Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'll have to get my hands on a knackerd cv boot and have a go at splitting the pressing apart. I really don't want to destroy one of my current ones trying as they may have to go back on the bus a little longer judging by the problems being reported with modern boots Anyone got a knackerd bus cv boot they wouldn't mind sending me? I think I have, I'll have a look in the morning. I have just fitted a set of GKN ones, I hope they last more than a year.
