Restoring a Devon Round Beaver Badge...

Almost there, well for the rest of the Summer, but...

That round plate on the rear tailgate, its not a plate, its a badge, an old Devon Badge with a Beaver on it, now, we didn't have time to restore this, and as a previous owner had already painted over it at the last respray, I didn't bother this time, so its had a couple of more coats of paint applied.

However, the Bay comes off the road again at the end of the Summer, for a proper re-spray, this has just been a quicky to seal with two pack primer, and then a top coat.

Has anyone restored one of these Devon Badges that have been painted over before?

How did you remove multiple paint layers without damaging the Beaver image and words 'Devon'?

    Somebody must have...

  2. what paint was used - celly, 2K?

I'd try a little bit of celly thinners on the edge to try to remove the paint - if it works try a small area on the front as under all of the colour paint might be original colours of the badge which you wont want to remove (if they were coloured?)

I've never seen one of those badges, I'm assuming it is an embossed metal badge? ....which would have been coloured or plain?

  4. Looks more like a beaver...

  5. a lot of time and patience with wet and dry maybe?

You could try something harsher on the parts that you know arent painted..

If you clean it up you'll probably still be able to make out the original script and beaver outline, got my daughter to repaint mine with humbrol enamel paints

  9. This is what the badge is supposed to look like...

Not sure that would survive either celly or sandpaper...

  10. I suspect it's meant to be an Otter. Isn't Sidmouth on the river Otter?

  13. maybe use 2500 grit to take the paint away very very slowly til you see the water decals underneath? but very dicey! best bet is to take the disc back to bare metal, then get the devon artwork replicated and printed onto it via a printer that can apply print to solid items..? sounds long winded, or you could get it printed onto clear vinyl then stick it on to it?

I can replicate the artwork for you so you have the artwork file if you like? :)

  14. Used to have a DVD Printer until earlier this year, seems a shame to have to invest in one for one job, which would obviously need to be lacquered over otherwise the first bit of rain and it washes away.

The vinyl idea is possibly the best solution, very good of you to offer to replicate the artwork, I'm sure other Devon Owners will be pleased if we leave the file on this forum.

  15. ok mate, will get on it as soon as I can, myself included as I have a devon also :D

I reckon, if the costs are not too high and demand is there, you may be able to get those 3D Printed
