So, I've had the new engine in for about 6 months now and I've done little more than pulling her out of the yard everyday and runs to the mechanic. I'm feeling brave and I'm going to take her to pick up a bumper for my crewcab which is about a 140 mile round trip. Apart from being gentle with her has anyone any advise on the subject?!?
make sure the radio works, this enables the drowning out of engine noises which worry you, it's also wise to carry a cloth or something to cover up any worry guages that are fitted.
Lol. I'll just pull out the oil and battery light. Out of sight out of mind and all that. And the radio is very loud so no engine noises here
A bit of tape over the bulbs....I think the battery light if pulled will stop the alterator charging and you will have a problem! Seriously just enjoy it.
That "why" you posted Baysearcher,is it in retort to my post ? if yes ,Answer>for the sheer unadulterated joy that's why ,or is there any other reason you know as to why anyone would even consider doing a dip stick temp test? if you answer yes to my question ,do tell, please, educate everyone.
don't drive all the 140 miles worrying - take it in your stride, get yer shades on & enjoy - make sure you've checked the oil before you go & all will be well!
I do understand your anxiety though, my first van dropped a valve on the A34 and left bits of engine everywhere, then when I had a recon put in I was so worried that it would happen again I listened to every noise, felt every judder and it took a while to enjoy it properly. But I do recall the first long run from Southampton to Leeds and it was actually really good fun and I never had a problem with that van ever again until I sold it 4 years later.
MorkC68 & Dr Ben.I understand you both as had problems with a past van and it is not easy to forget however much you have done. But you also just need to get in and do your thing and enjoy
