As far as i understand the thermo time sensor bolts to the crank case in the centre of the engine. If cold enough, then this will tell the ecu to turn the 5th injector on. NB the 5th injector only comes on for a few seconds and only when the starter is cranking. If this is at fault then the engine may not start at all. Once started this system has nothing to do with the running of the engine. The temp sensor 2, at cyl. no.3 sends temp. info to the ecu all the time so that the ecu can hold the injectors open longer and therefore richer when cold. This will effect the engine once it has fired up.
Quick update, popped home on my lunch hour (as it's dry and light) cut and re connected wire, pulled connectors off injectors and cold start and double relay and sprayed wd40 over all then tried to start, van started in seconds and is running smooth and not lumpy so fingers crossed it was that, i'll tidy up and retry tomorrow but it had sat 13 days since last start so i'm fairly certain it's sorted.
im a cynic barn, sometimes it's hard to belive summat so simple could work.... if dry tomoz i'll tidy the wiring and retry but hope so.
well, been out and had a play and it's started on the button and it's cold and damp so it looks like the wire was causing the fault, cheers to all who helped, i'm gonna bookmark this as it is a good place to store a bit of info about the parts etc and someone else might ask the same stuff later.
