Got my feet wet having a sneaky first try out of pressure washer blasting with crushed glass ...
Not much use on "sound" paint, so not the job for full strip-back, but ace for tinware ...... This is about five minutes: IMG_20181121_142523799.jpg

  7. I'm on the threshold of obsessing, mate (you know that well ;)). Needed to fix the catches, as they were slowly undoing themselves. When they're done, the whole lot's going back in in, no more painting.

Went for the stainless button-head look on the hinges...

  8. Did you grease the hinges before you bolted it back together?

  9. Not together yet, but no. There are nylon washers between the hinge fingers that provide the "lube". All very approximate.

  10. Maybe not as interesting as the other posts, but today I removed the old tailgate rubber surround seal for a cleanup before fitting the new one. Well out of sight and out of mind water finds its way under the seal and rusts the metal.

After scraping off the old glue and dirt and rust, I found 3 small holes to fill with Isopon.

Brushed on Vactan first to kill the rust and when dry filled the holes and sanded down. Tomorrow if good weather I will finish off with brush paint.

Earlier in the week I took off the sliding door track cover panel and the other side one. And yes quite a bit of rust to deal with under there. A good rub down and Vactan and brush paint all now good. Derusted and painted the inside of both panels as well. Easy job worth doing. And a good time to clean up the track and regrease.

Took the engine out, the gearbox is going to @nobody to overhaul and fit a higher ratio 4th gear.

Almost 3½ litre of Castrol Syntrans drained from the box and not too much on the magnetic plug.

  14. Put the leisure battery on charge as theres not enough sun for the solar panel to keep it charged. :(

Just about to do the same, except my solar panel is removed as it no longer works. Need to sort the replacement once I've got all the old Sikaflex off the pop-top!

  16. @scrooge95 Did you buy the solar panel new? its not been that long since you installed it wouldn't have thought theres much to go wrong with them?

Yeah, it’s true but after prolonged discussions with the company we have agreed that my roof isn’t suitable for the panel I bought (the ridged surface means it’s not completely supported and therefore I need a reinforced one) My bad for just copying what Si did with his rather than doing my own research I guess. We’ve agreed a good deal for an aluminium reinforced replacement at a very fair discount, and I’m okay with that. There’s a long and rather boring ramble from me about it on one of the solar panel threads, whilst I worked out what was wrong!! At least I got a response from my sellers, I don’t think @77 Westy got anywhere at all when his went wrong. Live and learn (and nobody died ;))

  19. Well, looks like I've dumped all my oil and I'm stuck up by Hadrian's wall. Left the spare oil at home so the Mrs is on her way up.
Any tips for limping home? 20181124_112308.jpg
Got a nice photo though 20181124_111200.jpg
