VW T2 1972, building a totally new car

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by Ziiga, Jul 23, 2013.

  1. Thanx everyone for your response. @zed i found that already but meanwhile i was fabricating the rail, catching the right line and from 2mm thick steel was real hell. But finnaly i manage to make it right. But anyway it would be much easier just to buy new one. All in all is quite important part, that the sliding door fit right ..

  2. Today was a busy day and the day for the bay. We have drilled all the spotwelds... next thing is to remove left side panels...

I have also welded the sills with spot welder and mig. Turned out that the spot welder is much quicker then old fashion way to drill a hole, weld over and then remove the extra weld...

  3. Very neat. :)

  4. That is a tidy bit of fabrication

  5. new update. I have removed all side panels. I need to drill all the spot welds and remove what is left from pillars and profiles on the roof.

Notice the rust on edge which is spot welded?

  6. This is real dedication!

  7. @jimmy1975t2 , dedication is a MUST now =) My goal is to finish this bay till july.

Today i was dismantling the rims. Outer rings are waiting for polisher, inner and center will be powdercoated and then all assembled lacquered with soft clear coat.

  8. I better pull my finger out and get mine done then as you have a hell of a lot more work to do than me and about the same time scale

  9. Have any of you had any experience with parisbeetles sunroof kits? I've got for my from Renault Twingo but i don't like the shape of it. It is not the same as on VW T2.

So i'm looking for a new one. Anyone? Thank you =)

  10. I have one sitting in my shed, it will need re stitching. Its the one with the Alloy ribs, you can have it if its any use to you.

  11. Amazing ideas and craftsmanship, fair play to you sir.. That's going to be one hell of a vehicle!! I shall be making a motivation wall.. Great idea!

Those split rims are going to look awesome when they are fitted..

  13. I always wondered how split rims fitted together. Is there some sort of sealant between the parts?

  14. @vdub brvs When you will have some time off could you measure the hole of your sunroof? And i would be more than happy if you could take some pictures.

@windowbay75 thank you for your compliment. I'm doing my best =)

    @MorkC68 :beer:

@Zebedee they are bonded only with grey silicone sealent. Nothing else. I also thought that there is rubber gasket but there isn't any.

My plan is to make the bus like this one on this photo... We'll see what turns out at the end.

Comments are more then welcome. At first the plan was to paint the wheels in white with red centercaps but i think the orange pops out :)

I like the orange but then I'm no fan of white wheels!
The orange would look really good.
