I had some comfy, but nasty looking Volvo seats in mine when I first got her, but picked up some s/h stock seats on ebay, got some original material from the US and had them recovered when the resto was carried out. They fit and look much better now IMO, and are quite comfy..

  3. I went for Porsche Tombstones in Nellie, and reupholstered them when doing the bed, so it all now matches.

They are super comfy, and seem like a great height. Drove 2000 miles in them last summer on a 3 week trip and not once felt uncomfortable.

I was originally going to go for SAAB seats, though got put off by the issues I heard about height. The tombstones fitted great.

  4. I've read a lot about seats and was undecided as my original seats have broken springs which poke through the vinyl and bite you!

I have been given some slab seats by a guy who was breaking it as he had bought it for the engine!

So basically these will be going in the bus very soon, I have also read all the feedback on slab seats so wasn't sure, decided to place one in position & try it out, I'm 6ft & my head touched the ply lining but I then realise it was on its highest setting!

Lowered it and although quite high I liked the driving position, my only thought is that the steering wheel will be too low but of that's the case I've seen a spacer you can fit to my aftermarket steering wheel which will raise it a bit!

  5. The other thing to bear in mind with seats this high is a problem I currently have - flipping down the sun visor blocks my entire view of the road ahead!

  6. I hadn't thought of that!

It's looking out of the side windows that's the problem. I thought they were comfortable when I trial fitted them but had a sore back after about 50 miles for years!

  8. I've taken all the comments on this thread and the others onboard but as my old seats are carp and the slab seats were free I'm gonna give em a go, worse case scenario the old seats will be out and I could lob em back in or fix em up!

Good plan! You may get on fine with them. At 6'2" they did my head in (literally)

  10. I have horrible seats care of PO......I wouldn't recommend them (even though I can't tell you what they are from!)

Soon to be changed and I'm thinking of some Range Rover seats :)

I test drove a bus with new Mini seats in. I'm 6"2 and I had to jam my legs under the steering wheel and kept banking my legs as i went round corners!

  11. I've now done the same thing with mine, although being a non-walkthrough, there are no centre support hoops either side of the gap in the middle, so I think mine sits slightly further down inside the arches:

Nothing suits your bus as well as original seats IMHO.

  17. Kruger has just pointed me to this thread after I posted my new home made seats on my resto thread! Was told these where old westvalia seats but I don't know! Cannibalised some Renault espace bases and welded these seats to them then strengthened some new bolt holes and popped them in!
Clearly I now realise they are too high? Even though they feel comfortable when sitting in driver seat!
