What seats have you put in your bus (&photos)

  1. I've been searching for a post on fitting MGF seats to the bay but can't find it, anyone know where it is. As I remember, it was meant to be an easy fit. I've bought a pair of cream leather MGF seats which I'll have trimmed to match the interior (original ones were refurbed and re trimmed last year so I'll sell them if anyone's interested)

  2. I'm wanting to have these

I Like the originals but I'm six foot three and after a long journey I can't stand up straight for days so I'm going to swap them. I like the retro bucket style and they are the right height to prevent the knees getting trapped under the steering wheel

Originals do work best they look right and a good pair are worth their weight in gold on long journeys in my vw experience.

  4. I find they give no support on corners and kill my back on a long journey. When I had them recovered I had the fillings replaced as they'd fell to bits. Still, uncomfortable although they look right. Must be my height

  5. There is an article in Camper & Bus (Sept 2013).

Here are my MGF Cream and Beige Leather seats. They need a good clean but should look great when I get around to fitting them.

must be. I do 50000 miles as a truck driver. In my truck I have seats that are state of the art they are heated, have built in massager thing you can shape them any way you want and my back still aches after a run. I don't get bachache in my van and never have in any of other bays.

  9. They're the same as mine, I'll have the new ones trimmed the same, I think it's the length of the bottom bit, there's a gap between the end of the seat and the back of my knees that's about five inches, according the to ergonomic desk person at work, the gap should only be an inch at the most to avoid a back ache.....

How will changing the seats for what look like lower ones help then? Surely there'll be an even bigger gap?

I'm with Z4 on this. My originals did my back in, my replacements don't. Easy choice for me.

  12. Tips for replacement. I'm following the camper and bus project but it's not that detailed

  13. Nope.... Originals

  14. It's not how high they are, it's how long (front to back) the base of the seat is.

    Easy.
Slide old drivers seat forward off runners. Lift passenger seat base and unhook from floor.
Mark and drill new runner positions over the top of original runners. Bolt in using spreader plates.
    I used Porsche seats.

Yes we can all see that now. :D

  17. Sounds simple, I've got a swivel base on the passenger but I suppose the principle is the same

  18. I took mine out of a Rover at a breakers, I think it was a 220 or 420. They are nice enough seats and are in good condition, the only problem is that they jut out a little bit at the back which cant be seen in the photo this interferes against the interior and prevents the seat back adjustment. I will be repositioning them and will pack the height out a little bit to gain the required clearance when I have finished the body work repairs.

  20. With a bit of patience and jiggling, I've got the swivel base to take the replacement seat. The drivers side will be more straightforward. Thought I'd make sure they fit before I get them re covered. What do people think? The size and style seem to suit what I'm wanting. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
