Yeah and the second rule of fight club….. oh, hold on…. Wrong thread. Good luck with the resto. I think the roof on our first Bay was similar, all hidden behind that carpet-ty lining stuff
Sorry to hijack thread, but I have some panels squirrelled away if you need anything, as my bus is going to be sold fairly soon Send me a PM if interested
Yeh the one positive with this van is sh is completely stripped out of any interior in the back so thats one thing ticked off the endless list.
Ive prepped myself for the worst! But in my view if it rolls and puts a smile on your face it’s worth it. We wanted a family project after getting rid of my Westfield kit car. I have 2 boys 1@15yrs and the other is 9. Both really wanted to help on my next project so whilst they were full of enthusiasm we looked for something within our current budget. We could have saved for a couple more years for an easier project but the eldest will be approaching 18 by then and once he’s discovered women and booze his enthusiasm will die. This way they are both involved and we get to work within our budget.
You’ll be busy, but it’s only bits of metal, it’s all repairable…with enough time/patience…sometimes money. I’d also look at front/rear roof cuts as could probably save a lot of time and hassle trying to fabricate bits that you’ve no longer got a good reference to go by.
Has someone tried to degutter it in the past? I think there may be an easier path… https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/979419.jpg
I have found a front cut that has the door frames intact I’m going to have a look tomorrow as it’s not too far from me.
from what I can see the bottom isn’t to bad so this is very achievable. Having a proper look tomorrow as it’s been patched up and painted but I think it was by a different person than who attempted the top.
