If it's mid resto, the AA or RAC won't touch it I wouldn't think.

    I think you're wrong.
As anybody who has had a car stolen will tell you, all they'll do even when a vehicle is actually stolen is give you a crime reference. When it's potentially going to be, they'll get back to their doughnuts.
I'll happily be proven wrong, but that's my opinion.

  8. Phone the local police station and explain your intentions
You may get a pco to accompany you in a recording role as to exactly what happend

If you contact the landlord of the premises as to the fact your contacting the police he will quickly be on side

If you can get the doors open legaly it will give you the chance to see your bus and the state its in
and you can decide your actions after that

I just want to add your the most trusting bloke ive ever met so i hope it comes good for you

  9. Over Christmas I went to his workshop and also knocked on his front door. He was not at either place. I really want to see this guy and go to his workshop as it would be so much easier to get my stuff back with his agreement. One problem I have is living 120 miles away from this chap - I just can't pop over as it is a 2 hour train journey each way. Nearer 3 1/2 if you add bus/tube either end! I did call the police previously but was told that technically my bus is NOT stolen and it is a civil matter and should go through the courts, which I am doing.

I am thinking at the moment I will take Friday morning off work and go there on the early train. If I can't see him anywhere I will leave letters at his home and workshop informing him of my intention to get the bus and my parts etc removed from his workshop. Someone made a valid point about the fact that even if he is going to finish the work, what standard will it be to assuming he DID have a back injury? Once he has finished trading I will have no redress at all and he will have no means to rectify things either.

Unfortunately I 'm on holiday for a week from Sunday so it will be 2 weeks until I can look to organise a trailer, talk to the police, landlord and a locksmith. This is not something I can really get someone else to do as I need to ensure all my bus parts, interior, parts I have since supplied and those I have paid him for are there. I also need to consider this may not be as easy as it sounds as my bus was previously at the back of the workshop with 2 other vehicles in front of it. I am sure neither the police or landlord would support me removing these 2 vehicles by force in order to retrieve mine.

make sure that the letters you leave are written by a solicitor buddy. just the fact that it is on headed paper will give it more clout. might cost a few quid but well worth it to show you're serious!

  11. Yeah good luck n keep us informed

Hats off to you mate, as I cannot believe how calm & patient you appear to have been with all this, I certainly wouldn’t have been.
To me, telling him that you intend to come and get your bus just before you go on holiday, giving him 2 weeks to secure it further or even move it seems madness.

You’ve got 2 days to organise a trailer, get up there on Friday, cut the padlock off, get your bus back, replace the padlock and post him the key. And then enjoy your holiday!

You’ve given him enough chances and have the evidence to back it up. There’s a real risk of your bus ‘disappearing’ from his workshop – personally I’d rather be done for trespass but have my bus back.

Do what many others have already said, just go and get it now! Otherwise all you’ll hear is ….”I told you so..”

    Good luck!

  14. Plus, when it goes missing the insurance will prob wash their hands of it. Esp if he disapears

  15. You got to go and get it!

  16. Enough talk more action please.

  17. Fronk if you've got his home address PM me it and i'll pop round a knock on his door for you whilst your stuck down south and see if i can have a chat with the guy. Im more than happy to keep it civil and see if i can get some answers or at the very least see if i can spring your bus out with some friendly charm. I'm more than happy to bring your bus back to mine whilst you arrange to get it back home and if its in bits im sure i could get something sorted. Like ive said im 5 mins away from this guys place and i really don't mind popping round to this guys house / workshop on a daily basis to see if i can catch him and see if we can get you a result. Also if you some company when you do pop up give me a shout.

  18. If your going in get a letter from the landlord giving you permission also stating you agree to replace locks and leave it secure.

  20. If it were me and I lived 120 miles away then, by now, I'd have hired or borrowed a van and trailer, driven up there and checked into a B&B, with a couple of mates. I might be lucky and find the guy straight away (thanks to a good relationship, which I would have developed over a few months, with the landlord, or folk running businesses from units close by, who would have called me as soon as they saw him) or I might have to wait a couple of days to find him myself. But one way or another, I wouldn't leave without my bus and all my parts on that trailer.

Forget letters and Court action. Unless you take action similar to the above, I fear you'll never see you bus again. Time is of the essence and everyday counts, so don't waste a moment. Who knows, you may already be too late.
