I'd say given the tussle they're likely to have getting the old bolts off, it's an underestimate, if anything. They are going to strip and regrease your CVs, of course. Aren't they ?
Ok so I have collected the camper.. All they have quoted for is replacing the cv gaiter... And the £120 is exc VAT So think I will shop around a bit before taking it back... any recommendations in Coventry area? Will definitely be speaking to garage more tomorrow, to find out why they haven't offered a refurb... Had a quick look at the Horn once I got home.. Cleaned (wire brushed) connections under horn push and at the horn.. To no avail Are there any other simple things to check?
Sorry Snotty... Should have said fuses are all ok Poptop... May be a dumb question it is the earth at bottom of the steering column obvious? ???
do you have to pay for a retest? if mine's needed something sorting i take it back in a couple of days, the MOT chap checks the work then hands me a certificate. i don't use the garage that does the MOT for the work, he's not a vw specialist.
Buy a set of these and give them to them to get the job done. They are the best available. cheap ones wont last a year. http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=12987&xSec=3205
If they do the work there is no fee for retest... If someone else does the work it's a partial test that has a partial fee?? Take it testing the horn is putting power to the terminals? I will check the earth connection on the steering column tomorrow My brother works near Machine7 so wouldn't need to wait for postage... Will have a look at them definitely
One contact on horn should be 12v permantly on (with the ignition). Test for that, then earth the other contact.
i d pay it m8 if you can afford to and there doing the job right if you can’t its not that bad just messy
Yeah will probably pay for them to do the CV Gaiter.. Although will be asking the, to use the kit from Machine7 to try and prevent future issues... Would like to get horn working myself... They have said they would not be able to provide a cost/quote for that... Which makes me nervous ???
WHS ^^^ For one gaitor? They are taking the *******. It only takes about 3/4 of an hour do do one your self. Wear surgical gloves. Torque up the bolts. Make sure you have the correct Spline tool for getting the old ones out. Pretty cheap in Halfords Use new washers on all the bolts. Do not put grease on the bolts. Use locktite. clean out the threads with de-greaser so the loctitie will take and the grease doesnt cause you to over torque the bolts. If you take the whoe driveshaft off, easier, as you can work on it in the garage. replace the bolts on both sides. As said before check the bolts after about 100 miles.
