  1. lol i forgot to say I couldn't actually get to the spare as it was buried under the anchor that I used as the handbrake never worked either. :p Oh and I got used shouting "get out the way" as the horn was broken. My sarcastic wit is wasted lol

I thought that was obvious mate.
    Clearly not it would seem!!
    Like your work.

  4. Mine has black and silver plates on from when I bought it even though its a '79. Not had an MOT or police issue with them yet.

I thought they had to see your V5 before they could issue plates?

    Generally sold as "Show Plates"

  9. They ask you to email a copy or a photo of the documents, if you dont you are agreeing to them being "show plates".

I sent nothing through for mine.

they are lovely plates as well, no vinyl background stuck on like some cheap steel ones, and all legal with the BS numbers and makers mark

  10. He is your friend and that's why he says it looks nice.
I am a petrol head and I know it is wrong and it doesn't look nice, it looks wrong.

but i don't like the wrong plates on the wrong year, hell i even dislike the wrong font on a pre 2001 plate, but i'm bored of saying it  i had black and silvers on my 69 landy but i wouldn't have them on a 78 vw, however i am dumb enough to argue my way around the fact i'd like some german font ones so who am i to judge.

  13. I'm with you (although would only have German style on an LHD westy...). Riveted yellow and white plates are my favourite look on a mid-70s vehicle, you used to see them everywhere - it's certainly what most of my Dad's old bangers had fitted in the 80s! I bought a set from Framptons for my Saab 95 (sold to make way for my T2). Looked completely authentic.

If the rest of my bus is ever in mint condition (which it won't be), then, and only then, would I consider wasting money on number plates!

  15. Haha, In general I'd agree, but my Saab was ratty as hell... the plates made it look even more like it had been dragged out of a barn. Made me happy anyway. :)

  16. I agree with you Sir.

And I have taken your point on board and decided to buy a back plate and restore the van from that point working forwards.

if memory serves me right although black and silver are legal until 73 most new cars even from 68 on had yellows if they could, i kind of showed a bit of "snobbery" that you had a new car, i know my 69 landy still had an original set of plates in the ali/plastic style white and yellow in really bad scuffed condition before i replaced them.

  18. Don't forget the orange flashing roadworks sign that you used to hang out of the window because the indicators were broken. ;)

I loved my 96. I should never have sold it.

  20. That's why I bought the 95 :) never quite got over the loss of my 96. Pic below taken (appropriately enough) around 1996 when it died... Only owned the 95 for a year though so I appear to have got it out of my system. They are great cars, but the truth is I'm happier in a VW.

Apologies for taking this thread off topic. FWIW you can just about see that the 1974 car above also wears it's original yellow/white plates with raised, riveted black plastic digits ;)
