Popped engine out to see why it wouldn’t turn over …. seems it does when not in engine bay.

Have you ever considered that one thing that stops it turning coupled to the transmission might be a jammed starter motor..

If its an automatic style motor with a supported shaft it should be ok to try turning the key without the engine in place.

I am pretty sure that over your history with TLB you have had one of every possible failure.

Watch out for the rear view mirror falling off ..

Refurbished starter motor sat in its box on garage floor…. wish it was that easy.

In that case its going to be something like the drive plate not going fully onto the end of the crank shaft, making the stack of things in the bell housing too thick for the space available, pushing things into the bell housing metal.

That can equally apply to me.
    Thank goodness for TLB!

Popped a new battery on, started up quickly and sat bumbling away merrily.

He needs a wash, front wheels need a quick check of the bearings for play and it'll be mot time :D

Looked sadly at him sitting there, neglected as I don't seem to have time at the weekend to get out camping, and still haven't wired in the new fridge.
Looked at the weather forecast and realised tomorrow is the only dry day this week. Might have to take him into work tomorrow for the hell of it, if he'll start without waking all the neighbours......

Off today on another 150+ mile run for the final day of four solid days of use .. by the end that should be about 750-800 total.

In the meantime (as pictured in the other thread) fitted new door rollers at Stafford taking about 30 mins.. scissors jack on block of wood holding up front of door resting on a rag, swap front bottom roller, then move jack to the back and swap the rear roller. All done with a Middle of LIDL socket set..

  10. Did he fire up straight away?

No, but it has been a few weeks since he was started, and it was about zero degrees air temp.
A couple of 10 second blasts of cranking, and then a couple of coughs. He was away and idling after that.
I'm guessing for Dells in the winter with a mechanical fuel pump this is about normal?

  12. Not so much the temperature, but the fact that the system (mech pump) seems to drain down, as we talked about (while wrestling with crazed dog :)). Needs a good churn on the starter for the pump to top everything up again. Then it fires up.

Remedy is an electric pump, if you can summon the enthusiasm to fit one. I've got a shiney new Carter pump still in its box. In a couple of years, I might get round to fitting it...

I did find myself thinking about going electric, as it gives me great satisfaction when I turn the key on Henry the Morris to hear the fuel pump clicking away happily to itself. Mind you, I also love the manual choke on Henry too. So maybe Clem will get something electric eventually, but then of course I'll have to actually use the malpassi fuel regulator that I don't need with the mechanical pump.... oh that can be for another day...... I've not wired in the fridge yet, and once warmer weather rolls around this might prove irksome! Hey ho.

Buy a Carter electric pump preset to the right pressure then you wont have enough money left to buy the Malpassi that you wouldnt need anyway. (Or you can use it as a steampunk ornament)

Carburettors without any chokes (silly Californians strike again) , expect harder starting on cold days unless pumping just the right amount.

The electric pump wont help unless the carburettor float bowls are emptying .

Mechanical pumps dont normally leak down ,as there is usually enough static head of fuel to feed carburettors almost without any pump. (As in us Weber owners filling the crank case with just a full tank, mechanical pump and a stopped engine)

  17. Twin carbs without chokes on short manifolds start just fine.
