  1. Cavity wax sprayed at high pressure through a pressure pot gun and decent lance nozzle
    Will form a wax mist that sticks to everything in that area.

  2. The plugs didn’t respond positively to gentle persuasion, so it was out with the drill, screws & pliers.

    You can see that I managed to get paint down the cavities (not all the way to the bottom though):

    Maybe one day a full cavity wax will be done.
    I guess that would be called a Hollywood, rather than the more applicable Brazilian.

  3. Get yourself some large cans of Dynax with the wands, and shoot some S50 in there.

    Summer job perhaps - might even be ready by then.
    I’ll make sure everything is sealed up properly this time.

  5. Could have it done by next Wednesday if you get your Dynax order in ;). They’ll have rotted by summer, believe me.

  6. If only all were so simple.

    It will still be in a dry garage until summer. I’ve seen metal rust before my eyes, so I know what you mean. Here though i’ve had bare metal for over a year and it’s as shinny as when I sanded it.

    weather was bad.. didn't even leave the motorway...

    I didnt like the way chunks of Waxoyl riding on rust came out of my chassis ... thats after about 10 years ..

  12. unfortunately not this time, just try to get out most weekends, ive made this weekend longer by having Monday off too!

    shows these machines will just go anywhere when they're maintained! slow and steady! hoping to get an extended few months on the continent in the new year

  13. Ah, that could explain the white flakes in my outriggers.

    Sadly there is only so much I can do this year (gosh, this year is almost next year already) to get this van useable. If I tap out flakes from parts I can’t have replaced, it’s a start on preserving them for a while.

    I bought Dinitrol before, but i’ll have a read of this about Dynax:

    I bought my 5L of Dynax and I can hear it actually flowing inside the container at 5 degrees C .. the downside is you want enough to coat surfaces but too much and you get puddles under the bus.. unlike Waxoyl that needs a 25C day to flow properly.. even thinned.

    One thing I noticed with the new Schofields outrigger sections is that the two outer ones are shaped not to touch the inner lower front panel so accurately at the bottom meaning theres a bit of a gap for water to get out rather than pile up and eat its way into the inner panel..

  16. So Dynax isn’t just a job for the summer then.
    Thanks for the tip @snotty. Sounds better than Dinitrol.

    I’ll be hermetically sealing everything, so no puddles underneath at least - and nothing going in except Dynax.
    Perhaps spraying a little at a time, leaving 24hrs for it to dry between coats, might mean it doesn’t all just collect at the bottom of things.

    I’ve read that it isn’t flammable (once dry), so that’s good for future welding. Another reason I was holding off on pulling the trigger (literally) using a cavity wax.

  17. The Dynax aerosols come with long flexible wands. About four cans will do all your cavities. No compressor needed. No need to wait till summer.

    Got rid of the hole in the floor and the hole in the inner sill just in front of the rear wheel arch ..
    Did have to cut back the inner stiffening frame to access the rotten floor outboard of the inner sill..

    And put it back .. 0.5 mm steel .. had to weld it with backing plates...

    Another race againt time .. prize giving at the sailing club this evening, out driving a start line boat tomorrow.

    At least theres no damp cold draught up from under the sink any more..

    You dont want to seal everything because when water gets in, it chooses crevices to sit in and rot. Make sure there are drain holes for the water, and you havent blocked them with wax ..
    Omitting drainage from e.g. body pillars when you reconstruct them seems to lead to the bottoms rotting out really badly.

    Paint and underseal burns pretty well when you are welding, so adding some wax really doesnt make a lot of difference.

  20. "Glued" the breather pipe connector into the top of my air filter so it stays blummin put!
